Job Details

The Team

As a Senior Data Center Operations Engineer you will be an integral part of the IT Infrastructure team of a key client and play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the infrastructure that powers their global operations. This position requires direct, hands-on technical work as well as leadership in designing, maintaining, and optimizing our data centers. You will ensure high levels of efficiency, resiliency, and sustainability that align with our strategic objectives.

Your Role

While this role includes some vendor and stakeholder coordination, it is fundamentally a hands-on engineering position. The Senior Engineer is expected to personally perform most of the technical work, rather than primarily managing others.

As the Senior Data Center Operations Engineer, you will report to the Senior Manager of the Infrastructure team. This is a hands-on engineering role, not a management-only position. You will be expected to actively design, install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain data center infrastructure while also providing guidance and technical leadership. With your expertise in IT and data center operations, you ll lead and deliver infrastructure projects, collaborate across teams, and manage vendor relationships.

Responsibilities span the Seattle campus and include regional office operations, requiring both domestic and international travel.

What You ll Do

Seattle Campus:

  • Directly perform and (when required) supervise the daily operations of all data center activities, data cabling infrastructure, and telecommunications equipment and circuitry.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and cabling systems; review and approve installation plans; inspect and validate work for compliance with physical requirements (space, rack mount, power, cooling).
  • Implement and maintain cabling and infrastructure standards across all foundation spaces.
  • Conduct capacity planning by monitoring power demand and cooling loads to forecast equipment growth capabilities.
  • Serve as the lead technical resource for projects involving data center expansions, campus remodels that impact the cable plant or new construction.
  • Identify and resolve recurring technical problems, developing new approaches to optimize operating environments.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise team members on hands-on deployments, build-outs, and moves.
  • Manage external vendors working in foundation data spaces (Radio/Telephony, Electrical/Data, HVAC, Security).
  • Modernize data centers using industry best practices with a focus on hybrid infrastructure.
  • Participate in the Interdepartmental Infrastructure & Operations team using Agile methodologies.

Regional Offices and Affiliates:

  • Design and provide direct hands-on support as required (not just oversee) installations of data facilities and telecom connections in expansion locations.
  • Collaborate with IT support, Physical Security, and Facilities staff to actively manage and maintain data spaces in compliance with local regulations and cultural contexts.
  • Participate in weekly project planning, design, and engineering meetings across time zones.
  • Review and provide feedback on construction documentation (Test Fits, Electrical & Low-voltage plans). Provide wireless access point (WAP) layout plans, including detailed installation requirements.
  • Evaluate, interview, and approve local IT Integrators, and work alongside them to resolve technical issues as they arise.
  • Review cabling and equipment specifications to ensure proposals meet foundation standards and are compatible with local power infrastructure.
  • Assist hands-on with the installation and activation of network, server, and out-of-band access equipment, and contribute directly to troubleshooting efforts as needed.

Your Experience:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or a related discipline with 5 7 years of hands-on experience in data center environments.
  • Deep understanding of ITA/IEEE/BICSI cabling standards and ASHRAE/NFPA/NEC guidelines for data and technical spaces.
  • Proven, hands-on experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting:
  • Network/server hardware
  • Storage Area Networks (SAN)
  • UPS systems, generators, air handlers, and environmental management systems
  • Experience directly operating and maintaining complex, multi-system environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor others while remaining technically engaged.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to obtain a valid US Passport and meet requirements for Business Visas to support global travel.
