Job Details
One of the largest global insurance brokers is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Enterprise Data & Analytics Infrastructure team. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Chicago, IL. The company is modernizing its data ecosystem with Google Cloud Platform and Terraform, making it a very ideal opportunity for an engineer passionate about cloud-native solutions and large-scale enterprise data initiatives.
This role is more than just pipelines and queries-it's about leading transformation. You'll help decommission legacy systems, establish modern CI/CD practices, and build data products that fuel analytics and machine learning initiatives. This opportunity is exciting because you will play a critical role in shaping a cloud-first environment at massive enterprise scale, while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to innovation across the organization.
Required Skills & Experience
7-15 years of progressive experience in data engineering or analytics infrastructure
Strong hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataform, Cloud Composer, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Storage)
Proficiency with Terraform for IaC across Google Cloud Platform environments
Advanced SQL, star/snowflake schema modeling, and ELT pipeline development
Experience with Python and frameworks like DBT
Strong understanding of CI/CD practices (Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, Terraform Cloud)
Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
Desired Skills & Experience
Familiarity with Vertex AI, Cloud Notebooks, or other ML platforms
Experience with visualization tools (Looker, Looker Studio, or similar)
Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and lineage (Dataplex)
Relevant certifications (Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Cloud Architect, Terraform Associate)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Daily Responsibilities
70% Hands-On Engineering (pipelines, data modeling, performance tuning)
20% Team Collaboration (Agile/Scrum, cross-functional projects)
10% Mentorship & Leadership (guiding juniors, documentation, reviews)
