Job Description

As a mechanical design engineer, you will be at the forefront of driving innovation and excellence in the conceptualization, design, development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing of the next generation of groundbreaking power unit. In this position you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components internal to the power unit, your responsibility will go from a concept starting from a napkin sketch all the way to production including, finding, and coordinating suppliers, defining test plans, defining assembly procedures for components, etc. We are seeking a talented and creative individual who is passionate about Powertrain engineering and development.

What you'll be able to do:
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical components internal to the power unit such as Oil pumps, heat exchangers, oil tubes, oil baffles, oil distribution manifolds, oil filters, oil valves, access covers, 3 phase connections, speed sensors, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams such as, geartrain, motor, housings, manufacturing, and quality to ensure a seamless integration of the mechanical designs with other systems.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and engineering 2D drawings following ASME Y14.5
  • Perform tolerance stack up analysis.
  • Contribute to design reviews, test plans, and requirements reviews to further optimize the powertrain system cross functionally.
  • Manage the technical side of the supply chain relationship, collaborating with external vendors to make the parts as easy to manufacture as it can be.
  • Develop design validation plans for the mechanical components.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and reports related to the development work.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with the Test engineers and subject matter experts to develop Test rigs and test plans to help validating the mechanical components.


The minimum requirements we seek:
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience designing, developing, validating and releasing electric vehicle batteries, power electronics, or power units.
  • 2+ years of experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively (NX, CATIA, 3DX, Solid Works, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and drafting practices.
  • Strong understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, casting, machining, sintering, stamping, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others in unusual and challenging problems.
  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.

Preferred Requirements:
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and prototyping powertrain systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with instrumentation and measurement of powertrain systems in a lab environment.
