Job Details

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Senior Project Manager for a full-time assignment with one of our premier financial services clients in mid-town Manhattan, NYC. Hybrid: will be required to be onsite 2 days per week.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving and executing strategic projects while implementing Agile methodologies. Your expertise in project management, combined with a deep understanding of the financial industry and Agile practices, will enable you to lead cross-functional teams and successfully deliver high-impact systems initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  1. Project Planning and Execution:
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including portfolio managers, traders, analysts, and technology teams, to define project objectives, scope, and success criteria.
    • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, ensuring alignment with business objectives and hedge fund strategies.
    • Facilitate Agile project planning sessions, backlog grooming, and sprint planning to foster collaboration and transparency.
  2. Budget and Resource Management:
    • Oversee project budgets and resource allocation, ensuring efficient use of financial and human resources.
    • Monitor project expenditures and make recommendations to optimize costs while maintaining project quality.
  3. Stakeholder Management:
    • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and potential impacts on the investment portfolio.
    • Collaborate with senior management to align project objectives with overall hedge fund strategies and goals.
    • Act as a liaison between business units and technology teams, fostering effective communication and understanding.
  4. Agile Methodology Implementation:
    • Champion Agile practices and methodologies across the organization, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability.
    • Facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to enhance team performance and identify areas for optimization.
    • Work closely with Agile teams to remove impediments, address conflicts, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  5. Risk Management:
    • Identify project risks and develop risk mitigation plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
    • Monitor project risks throughout the project lifecycle, taking proactive measures to minimize potential disruptions.
  6. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
    • Implement quality control measures to ensure project deliverables meet high standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement by facilitating retrospectives and promoting best practices.
Requirements:
  • A strong Financial Services background and experience managing projects related to Investment Management, Asset Management, Portfolio Management, front-office trading or similar. Familiarity with financial markets, investment instruments, and hedge fund strategies.
  • 10+ years' experience managing IT Systems Development project teams in a cross-functional environment. The firm uses IT resources from pooled teams.
  • Strong knowledge of development environment and tools. A developer background is highly preferred with hands-on experience with one of the technologies used at the firm (i.e., Python, APIs, middleware, SQL/DB).
  • Familiarity with Data Management and Warehousing.
  • Solid understanding of Cloud technology, preferably AWS.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.). SCRUM, Safe or other Agile certifications required.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a highly motivated individual who can work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, learn and implement new technologies, and provide mid/senior-level expertise.
  • 75% Project and Resource management and 25% Budget Management
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in improving SDLC, DevOps adoption and technology modernization projects.
