About the Role
Docstore team's mission is to develop and support the database platform storing all of the operational data at Uber.
Engineers in Docstore Control Plane and Engine team are hybrid software and system engineers who ensure that the database systems run reliably and are able to scale with the growth in business.
What the Candidate Will Do ----
1. Own backend systems such as our in-house sharded MySQL solution Docstore, MyRocks and other infrastructure components necessary to deploy and run databases at scale
2. Write code for production automation to help manage complex database deployments
3. Develop and maintain SLO measurement and accounting tools and processes
4. Develop capacity plans, debug production issues and work on improving performance and efficiency throughout the stack
5. Collaborate with others, both from Core Storage and from application engineering teams, to ensure that the infrastructure we are building works seamlessly and best serves application engineers.
6. Share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for database platform incidents
\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering field (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.).
2. Production experience in operating large scale database deployments (for example MySQL)
3. Experience coding with C++, Java, Python, or Go
\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----
1. 6+ years of experience in configuring and operating storage / database systems (MySQL, MyRocks, etc)
2. 6+ years of experience in Unix and TCP/IP network fundamentals
3. 6+ years of coding experience (C++, Go, Python, Java)
4. Experience analyzing, monitoring, and troubleshooting large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems
5. Experience performing capacity planning
6. Expertise with optimizing, and debugging Linux installations
7. Knowledge in distributed service architecture, such as load balancing, service discovery and distributed caching
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed technical documents.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
