Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels - including streaming, linear, and theatrical - so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

The Media Processing & Distribution team on the hunt for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to spearhead the development and enhancement of backend systems, emphasizing scalability, dependability, and performance. This role calls for a experience in Scala, Python, Kafka, and cloud technologies (AWS), to build and improve resilient backend systems, improve data processing flows, and guarantee high system performance, reliability, and observability.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will engage in every phase of the software development process, from conceptualization to deployment, in a fast-paced environment. Partnering with multidisciplinary teams, you'll translate requirements into premier backend services and advocate for continuous innovation in features and functionalities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement superior, scalable backend services with Scala and Python.
  • Integrate and orchestrate data streams using Kafka, ensuring exceptional throughput and data fidelity.
  • Apply AWS cloud services to create and sustain dependable infrastructure, catering to high-availability systems demands.
  • Work alongside the engineering squad to elevate code quality through unit tests, automation, and code reviews.
  • Involved in the full span of the application lifecycle, focusing on coding, solving, and devising sophisticated solutions to intricate challenges.

Requirements:
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Over 5 years of professional software development expertise, with a solid grounding in Scala/Python and backend engineering.
  • Proficiency with streaming data frameworks like Kafka and building cloud-based applications, primarily using AWS.
  • Experience with technologies including Scala (ZIO and Akka), Python Flask, Kubernetes, AWS, Gitbub, and Datadog
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain APIs and backend services.
  • Eagerness to take on new challenges and juggle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $142,600-$191,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
