Salary: $125,000 - $235,000 (DOE)

Summary:

RTL Networks has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to support the Tactical Mobility (TacMo) Integrated Product Team (IPT) by developing and delivering innovative and custom software and hardware solutions/products that enable the ability to securely execute mission requirements and support integrated warfighting capabilities, meeting current and emerging critical fleet needs. TacMo's in-house organic and agile capabilities, from developing systems from concept through design and into fabrication and prototyping, allows for rapid release outside of traditional waterfall product life cycles. TacMo's organic product development also supports the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Phase of the NAVAIR Acquisition Process. The Senior Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing development and product deployment team that is immersed in technologically advanced projects supporting the DoD. This position will be a part of a systems engineering team that works with a large cross-functional group including customers, suppliers, hardware/firmware and software engineers, integration and test engineers, and senior engineering subject matter experts and technologists to ensure the final products meet the mission objectives. The Senior Systems Engineer will design, develop, and deliver state-of-the-art communication/payload systems for aircraft and/or ship-based applications. Project assignments typically span the complete program life cycle, from internal trade or concept studies and system definition, to product development, ground and flight test, and fleet deployment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Essential responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform system analyses and simulations for airborne communications/payload systems.
  • Optimize the system design by performing trade studies.
  • Oversee the efforts of junior engineering staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all engineering staff assigned to a specific project.
  • Apply systems engineering processes iteratively, recursively and in parallel (as applicable) throughout the project life cycle to translate identified capability needs into balanced and integrated system solutions.
  • Lead, develop, maintain and identify improvements to the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Lead systems engineers to develop high-level performance requirements, derive lower level requirements (flow down) and verify subsystem and unit requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for complex airborne and ship-based architectures.
  • Develop concept of operations (ConOps), support integration and testing, and/or validate interfaces.
  • Lead analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Lead analyses for affordability, safety, reliability and maintainability (R&M), testability, human systems integration (HIS), survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Design, develop, execute, and document system test and validation procedures.
  • Prepare and generate materials for and participate in design and readiness reviews (i.e., Acquisition Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR)). Support customers/sponsors with SETR Checklist tailoring and scoring.
  • Capture and document system performance and defect reports.
  • Support customer installation and upgrades of TacMo products.
  • Support business development activities for TacMo products and services. Support annual Naval Aviation Requirements Group (NARG) meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) SCI clearance for continued employment. Position can start with a Secret and be upgraded.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience).
  • ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • 10 years or more of experience with Systems Engineering.
  • Ability to apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex life cycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Experience with requirements development, verification, validation, ICDs, risk, issues and opportunities management and trade studies.
  • Creative, and adaptable.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate individually.
  • Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively (written/oral).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing Model Based Engineering (MBE or MBSE) tools such as Cameo.
  • Experience with Manned Unmanned Teaming.
  • Experience with Machine Learning.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. ship is a requirement for clearance at this location.
