Job Details
Basic Function:
Has responsibility for monitoring all direct aspects of packaging and load out, including conveyors and bins, packaging equipment, motorized vehicles, computer system and paperwork. Must take corrective and preventive actions to ensure product is within quality specifications and meets customer requirements. Must take readings and recognize abnormal conditions while performing daily routine tasks. Packages product into bag and super sack batches and loads bulk truck and bulk railcars.
Principle Accountabilities
Operates loading equipment such as belt conveyors, airslides, platform scales to load hopper railcars and trucks.
Maintains and operates automated bagging equipment for product packaging.
Operates various mobile equipment, including forklifts for loading of dry van trailers, flatbed trailers and rail boxcars, and trackmobile for railcar movement.
Conducts railcar inspection of incoming/outgoing rail cars including soda ash and sodium bicarbonate. Monitors yard inventory, including loaded/empty soda ash cars, loaded/empty bicarb cars and boxcars.
Moves soda ash cars in coordination with operations, notifies site logistics for release/pickup of empty cars and spots empty railcars for pickup. Work with Logistics on product inventory, upcoming orders, outgoing empty soda ash railcars, incoming empty sodium bicarbonate railcars, etc.
Completes and monitors accuracy of SAP data entry for batch creation, batch assignment, bill of lading, etc. Conducts weekly warehouse inventory to reconcile SAP inventory to physical inventory.
Operates and inspects equipment in designated work areas, on various levels within the plant and loadout facilities, including silo storage area, product transfer conveyors and loadout area. Monitors field equipment (by inspection & instrumentation), adjusts, and troubleshoots equipment as needed. Maintains written record of field instrumentation readings.
Obtains loadout and shipping samples for quality control and certificates of analysis. Provides samples to laboratory for quality analysis and retain.
Performs necessary computer transactions in SAP to process all required paperwork for shipping orders.
Maintains written log of process changes, equipment malfunctions, and safety issues.
Prepares equipment for maintenance.
Participates in and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
Conducts pre-screening on food grade (USP) material prior to packaging and loading equipment.
Complies with all Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental policies and procedures.
The employee must be able to perform work tasks while wearing a dust mask or powered air purifying respirator (PAPR). A spirometer and fit test are not required.
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of the policies and practices relating to the quality and food safety plans and performs work in accordance with these policies and practices.
Other duties/responsibilities may be assigned.
NOTE: Employee working in trainee capacity will work under the direct supervision of a qualified shipping technician.

Adjusts work procedures to meet production needs.
Stop activities that may create an unsafe work condition that could hurt an individual, damage equipment or cause an impact to the environment.
Dimensions
The employee will work 12 hour day shift, seven days on, seven days off. This schedule also requires being available for overtime during certain periods (either scheduled overtime, or being on call in case unscheduled overtime is required), may include working weekends, and holidays.
