Location: NYC (Candidates must be in the office @ One World Trade Center 3 times/week. At least 2 days between Tues and Thurs.)

Role Context

  • Not an AI role, but AI will be part of the environment.
  • Holding company with a shared services model, providing solutions to owned companies.
  • Lean internal team (including IT); supplement with staff augmentation as needed.
  • Maintain only the minimum in-house capability but design solutions internally role titled Solutions Engineer (between Sr. Engineer and Solution Architect).
  • No legacy tech fully modern stack.
  • Can execute a lot already, but need this hire to move forward with key technical projects.

Hands-On Requirement

  • Must be able to design and build solutions, including writing code.
  • Current gap: candidates often have solution architecture experience but fail the technical/hands-on coding bar.
  • Insurance background preferred but not required.

Tech Stack & Environment

  • Fully cloud-based (Azure, PaaS; no IaaS).
  • Backend: primarily Python, some C# (nice-to-have).
  • Event-driven and services-based architecture.
  • Building a data estate (medallion architecture).
  • Vendor management and integration work are part of the role.
  • Large unstructured data challenge: ingesting massive PDFs/documents into usable formats.
  • Insurance domain preferred; finance or mortgage industry experience translates well.

Team

  • Two engineers currently; this hire will be the third.

Solutions Engineer Job Description

Position Overview

We are searching for a Solutions Engineer who thrives on solving business challenges creatively and is excited by the prospect of composing solutions in a variety of contexts across an insurance enterprise. Reporting directly to the Head of Digital Products and Data, this role is critical to driving forward our technological estate and spearheading innovation initiatives across the company, with a particular focus on pervasive automation through AI and other tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing solutions that utilize microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and cloud-native technologies
  • Identifying and executing opportunities for automation across business and technical processes
  • Designing and implementing AI-powered solutions to enhance efficiency and decision-making
  • Managing complex systems integrations while prioritizing business outcomes and automation opportunities
  • Creating solutions that effectively combine third-party and in-house technology with an emphasis on automated workflows
  • Leading change management initiatives that help transform manual processes into automated ones
  • Managing and working with contractors and vendors to augment internal automation capabilities
  • Deliver solutions with agility, security, and quality

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand the business needs and design elegant solutions to meet the business need
  • Collaborate with data teams to ensure solutions leverage and enhance the company's data strategy
  • Work with cloud, security, and governance teams to maintain compliance while driving innovation
  • Coordinate with PMO to align solution delivery with broader organizational initiatives and timelines
  • Serve as a technical liaison between business and technology teams

  • Drive the company's automation, integration, and technology strategy across business and technical domains
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies to solve business challenges
  • Create measurable improvements in efficiency and accuracy through targeted automation initiatives
  • Establish automation best practices and frameworks that can be leveraged enterprise-wide

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong service-oriented backend development skills
  • Experience implementing automation solutions and workflows
  • Knowledge of AI/ML technologies and their practical business applications
  • Demonstrated ability to identify manual processes suitable for automation
  • Database knowledge (SQL & no-SQL)
  • Experience working with various APIs models (SOAP, REST)
  • Cloud platform proficiency (preferably Azure) including automation services
  • Experience with Agile practices and methodologies
  • Strong background in DevOps practices, especially CI/CD pipelines and implementation
  • 3-6 years of experience, ideally from a P&C insurance firm or Insurtech company
  • Knowledge, familiarity, and passion for automation and AI technology, specifically Agentic AI, and its evolution and applicability in the Insurance space
  • Marrying vibe coding with software engineering is a HUGE plus
