The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end to end development for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The team drives innovation at scale for millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search.

As a member on DE&ET's User Foundations team you'll build tools to increase efficiencies for engineers, architect and maintain a unified platform shared between DE&ET's products and promote a culture of engineering excellence. The Senior Software Engineer will serve as a high-level technical resource and "go-to" person, solving sophisticated technical challenges and finding opportunities to improve systems, products, and services.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates closely with engineering teams to identify goals and translates them into technical specifications, projects, or fixes that scale and perform.
  • Leads by example to write, maintain, follow and enforce code quality through test driven development.
  • Contributes to project needs and the evolution of the team's practices, recommending changes in development, coding, maintenance and system standards.
  • Efficiently supports software throughout the lifecycle. Performs technical maintenance and fixing for components while maintaining clear documentation.
  • Applies experiences and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques to identify, resolve, and develop solutions to a variety of complex tasks involving architectural application changes.
  • Supports and mentors' developers through code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and technical leadership.
  • Implements reusable architecture and patterns that set the direction for backend service development across DE&ET.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience building highly scalable and performant production level web applications.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science/engineering.
  • Experience working within a large-scale modern Java or Scala application.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect complex technical changes, to knowledge-share, and get buy-in for their solutions.
  • Writes well-documented, clear, and robust code.
  • Proven ability to integrate with third party systems (ex: APIs, SDKs, etc)
  • Highly diligent with the ability to see projects from beginning to end, designing workflows and driving tasks.
  • Quickly learn, understand, and adapt to new technologies, identifying root causes and driving solutions to highly sophisticated problems.
  • Ability to support and mentor other developers by building trust, identifying goals, encouraging, instructing, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Experience building RESTful services
  • Experience with developing applications in cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)
  • Understanding of source control concepts and exposure to Git
  • Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of different database implementations
  • Working knowledge of DataDog and Databricks
  • Experience delivering backend applications in a production environment
  • Expertise in functional programming and Scala
  • Understanding of async programming models (events, callbacks, promises, async/await) and threading/concurrency

Job Posting Statement The hiring range for this position in California is $136,100 - $182,400. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
