Job Details

The Business Analyst (BA) position at the Texas Education Agency works on multiple projects that support the mission of the agency of improving outcomes for Texas students, with a focus on the early childhood integrated data system project.

This position performs advanced, senior-level business analysis work as well as user experience design work to ensure a positive and productive end user experience. The position will ensure design decisions are grounded in user experience and research and adhere to agency-wide design standards and industry-wide best practices and will partner with the product team and other key stakeholders on design solutions. The business analyst serves as the conduit between the program/customer community and the software development team through which requirements flow.

This BA will be involved at some level throughout the entire software development life cycle. Upon establishment of the requirements baseline, the focus is shifted towards the management of the requirements specification and verifying the fulfillment of all requirements, including requirements for enhancements post-implementation.

  • Experience eliciting requirements from interviews with customers and creating well-written system requirements
  • Experience with software development life cycles (SDLCs)
  • Business process re-engineering and software process flow improvement experience
  • Experience developing user stories and use cases that conform to business analysis best practices
  • Experience designing mockups and/or wireframes that conform to UX best practices
  • Demonstrated strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated strong writing and organization skills
  • Documented work experience with the requirements management software "Modern Requirements"
  • Documented work experience with the issue tracking software "Atlassian Jira"
  • Documented experience working for or closely with TEA or another state or local education agency
  • Documented work experience with Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program
