Title: Sr. Data Engineer
Duration: 12 months
Location: West Point, PA (Hybrid Onsite 2-3 days per week)

Position Summary

Establishing data workflows for predictive tools to enable more effective identification, characterization, and development of Client medicines and vaccines is a key objective for Client.
This position sits within the Digital Sciences team in the Analytical Enabling Capabilities sub-department of Analytical Research & Development. You will work collaboratively across a wide range of areas impacting all aspects of the drug discovery and development pipeline. Projects span data workflows, instrument metrology, and predictive sciences, helping to enable work across small molecules, peptides, biologics, vaccines, and more.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop data workflows and data pipelines in Python

• Meet with business clients and SMEs to gather requirements

• Collaborate with IT to implement data workflows

• Manage projects, timelines, and provide effort estimations

• Participate in daily standups and communicate progress effectively

• Present project updates to collaborators and leadership

• Work closely with scientists to understand experimental data and automate electronic notebooks

• Drive continuous improvement by suggesting innovative solutions to common data workflow challenges

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, related field, or Chemistry disciplines with strong programming background

• 7 8 years of relevant experience

• Expertise in AWS Cloud Services (Lambda Functions, S3, Cloud Formation Templates, RDS, ECR)

• Strong experience in ETL processes, data workflows, pipelines, wrangling, and ingestion

• Proficient in Python 3.9+ development and packages (Boto3, Pandas, pyodbc, openpyxl)

• Experience with Python virtual environments (conda) and IDEs (VS Code, PyCharm)

• Strong background in software design, development, testing (unit/system)

• Proficiency with Git/GitHub for version control and GitHub Actions for CI/CD

• Strong SQL skills with relational databases, data modeling, and design

• Familiarity with data/file formats (XLSX, YAML, JSON, CSV, TSV)

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and in team settings

Preferred Skills

• AWS Services: SQS, DLQ, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway

• Additional Python tools/packages (Cerberus, PyYAML, logging), linters, type hints, regular expressions

• Experience with data pipeline platforms (Dataiku, Trifacta)

• Experience in IT roles within pharmaceutical R&D, genomics, or scientific data environments
