Role Summary

At Rivian, the Service Business Operations team works across the organization to use data to inform and aid in the strategic planning and operational decisions of how we allocate resources to support Rivian in its growth. As a Data Scientist, you will partner cross-functionally to understand data and key business questions to support how we forecast, estimate, optimize, and scenario plan for Service. This role will have an opportunity to lead how we design and build models to support strategic and tactical Service business decisions. The Sr. Data Scientist will report into our Manager, Data Science & Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable models using statistics and machine learning to support Service in how we estimate and forecast service demand as well as the allocation of resources
  • Develop approaches that improve how we optimize our service network using linear programming or other heuristic methods
  • Support the development of models that will support a statistical simulation framework that enables scenario planning for Service operations
  • Code that is well-structured meeting standards for style, maintainability, reusability and automation using Python, SQL, and Apache Spark
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with organizations to deliver end to end solutions including gathering and understanding the business need, exploring data, building and validating models or data pipelines, and deploying of models or pipelines
  • Partner with stakeholders across service to specify, implement, and deliver business insights for strategy and operations
  • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement, focusing on using sound quantitative approaches in statistics or mathematics to improve how we ask questions, how we answer those questions, and how we use data to create business impact

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related STEM disciplines
  • 3+ years of industry experience in statistical modeling and or machine learning (Monte Carlo, optimization, regression, time-series forecasting, kernel density estimation, neural networks etc.)
  • Proficiency in Apache Spark, Python and SQL
  • Familiarity with tools such as Databricks and MLflow is preferred
  • Proven experience working through an environment of ambiguity with the ability to self-prioritize responsibilities and requests from multiple partners
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail and quality
  • Outstanding team player capable of guiding complex technical discussions
  • Ability to sit for 8-12 hours per day
  • Travel requirements <10%

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $146,900 to $183,600 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
