Title: Sr. Linux Systems Engineer
Location: Alpharetta, GA (Onsite)
Type: Contract
Duration: Long-term (initial 6+ months, extensions possible)
Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Linux Systems Engineer with strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMware, and enterprise storage environments. This role is hands-on and security-focused, involving OS hardening, automation, and infrastructure support.
Responsibilities:
- Lead security efforts to harden Linux environments (OS firewalling, SELinux, auditd, encryption/cryptography, MFA).
- Respond to and resolve alerts related to Linux, VMware, and storage systems.
- Administer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems in production.
- Support Linux systems running Oracle databases in iSCSI/FC SAN environments.
- Create automation and scripts using Bash, Python, Ansible (REST API experience a plus).
- Manage patching and vulnerability remediation with Red Hat Satellite.
- Work with NetApp storage (NFS/iSCSI/FC), including NFSv4 with Kerberos authentication.
- Support and manage Cisco UCS blade infrastructure.
- Provide excellent documentation and status reporting using Jira/Confluence.
- Occasionally support off-hours activities as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in IT or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in Linux systems engineering.
- Deep experience with RHEL/CentOS and VMware
- Strong storage management skills (NetApp, EMC, SAN/iSCSI/FC).
- Experience with Oracle DB on Linux.
- Proven scripting/automation background: Bash, Python, Ansible.
- Experience with system hardening and CIS standards
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Hardware backup and recovery.
- Jira/Confluence for task and documentation management.
- Familiarity with security compliance standards.
