Role Summary

As Staff Functional Safety Engineer working in the Electric Power Conversion group, you will be responsible for performing functional safety development of power electronics components.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document safety analysis on the embedded software to address safety anomalies.
  • Conduct, review, and document SW-FTA, SW-FMEA, Freedom from interference (FFI), common cause/cascading failure (CCA/CFA) and dependent failure analysis (DFA) for systems and embedded software (including controls design).
  • Develop and document systems & software safety concepts, software safety requirements to provide software safety design recommendations.
  • Support software safety analysis to come up with software architecture design.
  • Develop systems/software architecture at a system level in a safety critical path with multiple ECU interaction.
  • Support hardware safety analysis (FTA, FMEDA) and hardware safety requirements development.
  • Develop upstream and downstream traceability between software, systems technical safety requirements and relevant test cases in traceability tool.
  • Define and prioritize test details/case for software safety requirements including fault injection development.
  • Support the systems, and software test team in executing test cases with troubleshooting abilities.
  • Perform safety impact analyses on new projects or architectures.
  • Support vehicle functional safety team in development of technical safety requirements and hazard analysis risk assessment.
  • Develop software safety analysis and requirements for microcontrollers/ICs.
  • Maintenance of software safety requirements and architecture with implementation agreements.

Qualifications

  • MS or BS degree in Electrical or Embedded Engineering
  • Systems & embedded software design experience with functional safety engineering background.
  • 5+ Years of experience in systems or embedded software and controls with a functional safety engineering background in ISO 26262 part - 4, 5, 6 and 8.
  • Understanding of the systems design architecture of Low Voltage or High Voltage electronics design applications.
  • Understanding of the embedded software design/architecture for low Voltage or High Voltage Electronic design applications.
  • Understanding of the embedded software design timelines and process flow.
  • Knowledge of failure modes and failure effects of embedded software and controls design with prior experience in performing software FTA, FMEA, FFI, DFA, cascading and common cause analysis.
  • Ability to understand and create traceability in JAMA or similar requirements management tool.
  • Ability to work with resilience, zooming out and with out of the box thinking.
  • Strong team player with a drive to exceed expectations and meet deadlines.
  • Preferred:
    • Understanding of the systems/embedded software, controls design architecture of DC-AC Inverters, DC-DC Converters, AC-DC Power Electronics applications.
    • Tools expertise with Medini, Plato or similar strongly preferred.
    • Understanding of MATLAB (model-based design), C, C++
    • Familiarity with E-Gas Level-1/2/3 Concept
    • ISO 26262 Certified

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $168,000 - $193,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
