We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic System Architect, Rail Transportation to join a leading Randstad client in Washington, D.C. In this role, you will be a key technical leader, responsible for translating complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical designs. You will provide critical oversight and guidance across multiple projects, ensuring all solutions align with established architectural principles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in large-scale enterprise environments and a deep understanding of IT, OT, and business architecture, with a particular focus on the railroad or broader transportation logistics domain. Your expertise will be vital in driving technical vision and moving the organization forward with innovative and robust solutions.

responsibilities:


  • Collaborate closely with Solution Architects and engineering teams to translate business requirements into comprehensive and robust technical designs.
  • Assist in the architectural design and implementation of software components, features, and modules, ensuring adherence to architectural principles and standards.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to support teams, troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring the stability and performance of systems.
  • Ensure that all products are scalable, secure, and maintainable within their designated domain.
  • Contribute to the strategic vision of the organization by providing architectural guidance and selecting appropriate platforms for future initiatives.
  • Lead and manage multiple architecture engagements, effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve key architectural objectives.


qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data and Intelligence, or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated, repeated experience successfully directing complex, large-scale architecture initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, lines of business, and highly regulated environments.
  • Proven experience as an architect within enterprises of $500MM or more, providing vision and making key platform decisions to drive business transformation.
  • Deep knowledge of IT, OT, domain, and business architecture.
  • Strong understanding of railroad or broader transportation logistics, including operational workflows for dispatch, scheduling, and asset management.
  • Expertise in networking, cloud computing (e.g., Azure, AWS), and on-premise infrastructure.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively within integrated, cross-functional teams.
