Location: 235 Presidential Way, Woburn MA

Project Duration: 12 months w/ possibility of extension or conversion

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

Security Clearance: Secret Clearance Required

Position Overview:

As a System Safety Engineer II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and reliability of complex defense systems. You will support and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant safety programs, conduct detailed safety analyses, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to identify and mitigate hazards. Your work will directly contribute to the safe operation and mission success of cutting-edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and implement one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
  • Perform system safety tasks and analyses across management (100 series), analysis (200 series), evaluation (300 series), and verification (400 series).
  • Analyze engineering hardware, electrical drawings, and schematics for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Review test procedures and tactical operating/maintenance procedures to ensure proper administrative controls.
  • Collaborate across integrated product teams to eliminate hazards or implement effective safety controls.
  • Develop innovative solutions that enhance safety without compromising critical system performance.
  • Assist in designing concise, testable safety requirements or analyzing existing ones.
  • Conduct system safety program and design analyses.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines during technical execution phases.
  • Interface with key stakeholders including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Contribute to Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval.
  • Present safety findings during technical reviews and safety approval processes.
  • Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
  • Prepare internal and customer-facing reports detailing safety analyses and findings.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (advanced degrees may substitute for experience).
  • Background in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical or Firmware Engineering.
  • Active and transferrable U.S. government-issued Top Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs (e.g., MIL-STD-882, DO-178).
  • Familiarity with system/software safety in Agile development environments.
  • Exposure to Human Systems Integration and Human Factors Engineering (MIL-STD-1472).
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proposal development.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Change Proposals, Engineering Review Boards, and System Safety Working Groups.
