Job Summary

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to provide high-level, day-to-day operational support for complex cloud-based application systems. This role focuses on monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous improvement in a regulated production environment. The position is 100% remote and supports a program.

Location: Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: 4+ years contract


Key Responsibilities

  • Detect, isolate, document, and resolve system outages and operational issues

  • Collect diagnostic data, restore services, develop workarounds, and support system recovery

  • Accurately document incidents using logging and discrepancy reporting tools

  • Work directly with customers on day-to-day system support activities

  • Respond to user-reported hardware and software issues and escalate as needed

  • Communicate system status and incident updates to users and senior leadership

  • Perform hands-on repair and maintenance of computing infrastructure as required

  • Support end-user hardware including workstations, printers, routers, and switches

  • Maintain system asset inventory and documentation

  • Ensure compliance with standards and security policies

  • Implement continuous improvement processes and operational best practices

  • Provide documentation, training, and additional support as assigned

  • Participate in on-call rotation for production system support


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree and 5+ years of experience, or
    Master s degree and 3+ years of experience, or
    PhD with relevant experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related field

  • 3-5 years of systems engineering or production systems support experience

  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems

  • Minimum 3 years of SQL querying and monitoring experience

  • Experience supporting large-scale, production environments


Technical Skills

  • Cloud platforms: AWS and/or Azure

    • AWS services including S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, CloudWatch

  • Automation & scripting: Python, Bash, PowerShell

  • Configuration management tools: Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): CloudFormation

  • Monitoring tools: DynaTrace, ScienceLogic, CloudWatch

  • CI/CD tools: Git, GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, CodeDeploy

  • Databases: AWS RDS, SQL Server, Oracle RDBMS

  • Networking fundamentals including firewalls, VPNs, and diagnostics

  • Security best practices and compliance in regulated environments


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications such as:

    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect

    • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

    • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

  • Experience with database performance tuning and backup/recovery

  • Experience working in government or highly regulated environments
