Job Description:

As an AF DCGS Principal Systems Engineer, you will perform analysis on technical and system life-cycle approaches that support organizational objectives. You will provide technical development, integration, experimentation, architecture, and sustainment support to the Air Force Distributed Common Ground System (AF DCGS) program, specifically with respect to AF DCGS system IT and network infrastructure modernization and upgrade programs.

Additionally, you will assist in the generation of Command, Control, Communication, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) architectures, implementation strategies, engineering, and technical reports.

HOW A PRINCIPAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
  • Advise client on AF DCGS technical and system life-cycle approaches that deliver on organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for defining and supporting the design, development and implementation of short- and long-term solutions to information technology needs through new and existing applications, systems architecture, and network systems and applications infrastructure.
  • Deliver technical analyses on system integration and architecture issues.
  • Often involved in modifying or adapting existing designs.
  • Reviews IT requirements and business processes; codes, tests, debugs and implements software solutions.
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with staff at stakeholder and higher headquarters organizations.
  • Assist in the control and oversight of IT architecture and network modernization projects through the organizational life-cycle (planning, installation, implementation, and operational transition).
  • Serve as organizational focal point for new IT and network technology efforts.
  • Takes responsibility for technical planning, architecture development and modification of specifications. Develops specifications for new products/services, applications and service offerings.
  • Assesses the compatibility and integration of products/services proposed as standards in order to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies.
  • Work with stakeholders and end users to develop requirements for system modernization efforts and manage programs through the requirements validation, solution development, and delivery phase
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:
  • High level understanding of the Air Force C4ISR enterprise systems such as AF DCGS, Air Operations Center, and the Targeting Enterprise
  • Familiarity with DCGS mission, DCGS Campus Area Network / Wide Area Network (CAN/WAN), Open Architecture migration, DoD Architecture Framework/relationships to Agile Development approaches and Cyber Security Operations and Processes.
  • Enterprise architecture, data flows, site capabilities
  • Acquisition processes (1067, security, boarding activities)
  • AF DCGS implementation requirements
  • Networking experience (OSI model, protocols, data rates, circuit ordering)
  • Active TS/SCI clearance required
  • Education: BS/BA in relevant technical, engineering. IT or cybersecurity field
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience as Systems Engineer with AF DCGS background; additional years experience in lieu of formal education may be considered
  • Must be onsite at Langley AFB, VA

The likely salary range for this position is $114,750 - $155,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
