Tariff Analyst

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Tariff Analyst to support import and export compliance through accurate product classification. This role requires strong knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), technical documentation review, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will combine technical acumen with trade compliance expertise to help ensure efficient and compliant global operations.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze engineering drawings, schematics, Bills of Materials (BOM), and product specifications.

Assign accurate HTS codes in accordance with the Harmonized System rules, section/chapter notes, explanatory notes, and customs rulings.

Document and justify classification decisions to support compliance requirements.

Ensure alignment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, international trade laws, and applicable Free Trade Agreements.

Monitor tariff changes, duties, trade remedies, and update classifications as regulations evolve.

Assess misclassification risks, communicate potential compliance implications, and recommend mitigation strategies.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, supply chain, logistics, sourcing, and compliance, to confirm product details and tariff assignments.

Work with customs brokers, legal counsel, and regulatory authorities when clarification or rulings are needed.

Maintain accurate records, classification databases, and reporting for management oversight.

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), General Rules of Interpretation (GRIs), and related customs rulings.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical product documentation.

Experience using classification databases, customs compliance platforms, and ERP/GTM systems (e.g., SAP GTS, Oracle GTM, Descartes).

Familiarity with international trade regulations, trade remedies, and Free Trade Agreements.

Excellent written communication skills for documenting classification rationales.

Proficiency with analytical tools such as Excel and Power BI.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a compliance, customs, or tariff analyst role within a global organization.

Knowledge of customs filing platforms (e.g., ACE, TARIC, Single Window).

Strong collaboration skills and experience engaging with engineering and supply chain stakeholders.
