This Torque Transfer Component ES position will be responsible for core document creation, milestone sign offs, benchmarking, and addressing quality actions for electrified drive units, front wheel drive hybrid transmissions, eBeams and axle systems. Key components include hypoid and bevel gears, axle shafts, splines, wheel hubs, collapsible spacers and flanges. An emphasis will be on hypoid and bevel gear, design, analysis, design tools, manufacturing processes, and overall gear quality.

In this position...
  • Technical lead for the following components: hypoid and bevel gears, axle shafts, splines, wheel hubs, collapsible spacers, and flanges.
  • Subject matter expert on the design, development, testing, and manufacturing methods of hypoid gears and bevel gears used in differential assemblies.
  • Lead design and development of each of the components listed above working with internal manufacturing and external supplier teams.


What you'll do...
  • Responsible (Owner) for the creation and maintenance of the Core Engineering Documents (Failure Mode Avoidance, Systems Design Specifications and Requirements, Test Procedures, etc.) for all the listed components.
  • Author requirements, design rules, methods in a manner that institutionalizes key learnings.
  • Lead technical design reviews, discussions, and deep dives to balanced conclusions for System, Subsystem, and Component engineering.
  • Conduct signoffs of System, Subsystem, Components in area of responsibility prior to Manager and Chief Engineer sign off.
  • Assist in hardware analysis of warranty return and test unit components.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and Systems Technical Specialist from Axle and Power Unit Systems teams.
  • Understand upfront design, verification plan and methods, and industrialization process of the listed torque transfer components.
  • Know the competitive landscape and what it takes to outpace the competition in areas of design, cost, efficiency and NVH.
  • Serve as Go-To resource for problem solving - Launch, Recall, Quality, Customer issues.
  • Coach, Mentor, and Train.
  • Speak with confidence and authority and be humble and collaborative in leading a technical review or debate.


You'll have...
  • Bachelors of Engineering (material science, electrical, mechanical, systems, etc.)
  • 10+ years of experience in axle systems/components with a focus on hypoid/bevel gear design and manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with differential gear analytical software such as Trans 3D, KissSoft, FEA, etc.


Even better, you may have...

  • Masters of Engineering (material science, electrical, mechanical, systems, etc.)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for the listed components including hot forging, powder metal forging, stamping, broaching, etc.
  • Proven history of design and verification directly applicable to differential and axle systems and components.
  • Proven history of evaluating choices and directing a team based on technical ideals balanced with industrialization realities

Key:
  • Ability to lead and align collections of people that do not directly report to this position.
  • Ability to institutionalize the key factors of success and lessons learned through documentation (design rules, SDS, technical design guides, etc.) and to teach associated learning sessions.
  • Ability to form an opinion, communicate it effectively at all levels, and drive the company in a winning direction.

An evidence book is required for TS candidates pending successful interviews. The evidence book should be submitted to the hiring manager.
