Job Details

MTSI is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to support an advanced air platform program. This role involves developing and performing testing procedures to validate system functionality, reliability, and compliance with mission-critical requirements. As a key contributor to the program, you will focus on ensuring performance and system readiness for cutting-edge defense technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Test Planning and Development:
  • Develop detailed test plans, test cases, and procedures based on system requirements and specifications.
  • Coordinate and execute tests for hardware, software, and integrated systems supporting advanced air platform technologies.
  • Test Execution and Data Collection:
  • Perform functional, performance, and stress testing in laboratory and operational environments (e.g., Hardware-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop, flight tests).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to evaluate system performance and identify gaps or defects.
  • System Validation and Operational Readiness:
  • Validate system functionality, including sensors, communications, avionics, and mission systems, ensuring readiness for operational deployments.
  • Conduct regression testing to confirm software and hardware updates meet requirements without introducing new issues.
  • Defect Identification and Resolution:
  • Troubleshoot system failures and document test discrepancies, working with cross-functional teams to develop solutions.
  • Track corrective actions and risks to ensure all issues are resolved prior to system delivery.
  • Compliance and Integration:
  • Ensure test procedures align with DoD testing standards, frameworks, and cybersecurity requirements (e.g., RMF, MIL-STD).
  • Collaborate within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) to address system integration challenges and ensure seamless operation across subsystems.
  • Technical Reporting and Documentation:
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, test summaries, and presentation materials for program leadership, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain test records and configuration management to support system sustainment and compliance auditing.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Test Engineer or in a related role within aerospace, defense, or high-tech systems.
  • Experience designing test procedures for complex hardware and software systems, particularly in DoD environments.
  • Familiarity with test equipment and tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, simulation environments).
  • Strong understanding of data acquisition methods and analytics for troubleshooting system performance issues.
  • Must possess an active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for SCI.

Desired
  • 12+ years of experience as a Test Engineer or in a related role within aerospace, defense, or high-tech systems.
  • Certifications that demonstrate expertise in testing and engineering:
  • Certified Test and Evaluation Professional (CTEP) - International Test and Evaluation Association (ITEA).
  • ISTQB Certified Tester (Foundation or Advanced Level) - Software Testing Certification.
  • CompTIA Security+ - Foundational cybersecurity certification applicable to testing in secure environments.
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) - Systems engineering validation applicable to test engineering.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification - Process improvement expertise to optimize testing procedures.
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner/CE Certifications (if relevant for simulation environments).
  • Experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) or Software-in-the-Loop (SWIL) testing environments.
  • Familiarity with advanced air platform systems such as radar, avionics, communications, and mission processors.
  • Proficiency with programming and scripting languages for automation (Python, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Knowledge of DoD standards, such as MIL-STD-810 (environmental testing) and MIL-STD-461 (electromagnetic compatibility testing).
