We are hiring a Tooling Operations Lab Manager. As a Lab Manager, you will be responsible for managing lab space utilized by production engineering teams for assembly, building, and testing of manufacturing hardware. You will support both engineering teams and lab technicians by managing equipment and supply storage, tracking project progress, ensuring efficient space utilization, and providing guidance on lab usage.

External customers will need to schedule shop support through you to prevent scheduling conflicts. Your strong organizational skills will be essential for managing equipment build projects, including tracking required equipment, lab space, consumables, and commercial off-the-shelf hardware. You will use modern collaboration software to process incoming requests and develop strategies to optimize lab space utilization. In this role, you will maintain accountability for lab best practices and report directly to the Tooling Ops Manager.

Key job responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project schedules around long lead, complex fabrication projects.
- Represent the interests of multiple customer teams, namely the fabrication team and the equipment engineering team.
- Help tooling and equipment Engineers focus on "Just In Time" principles, kitting, and offsite storage- effectively managing long lead orders and frequent re-prioritization.
- Closely manage space usage in the Equipment Engineering assembly area and enforce policy around maintaining a safe and effective work area.
- Maintain shop supplies and hand tool stocks both in fabrication areas as well as equipment assembly areas.
- Work with Equipment Engineers and leaders to plan larger scale projects that span multiple groups.
- Help organize material and device transfers between local Kuiper buildings

Export Control Requirement:

About the team
KTO (Kuiper Tooling Ops) provides on site expert technical support focused in the fields of Control Systems Builds, Welding, Machining, Metal Fabrication, Laser Tracking, Precision Assembly and DFM.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years experience in hardware dev, manufacturing, or related fields
- Experience communicating across cross functional teams
- Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds on some occasions, stand/walk for up to 8 hours (with breaks), and able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Direct experience managing a mechanical lab or shop space
- Experience in an R&D/Prototype environment
- 1+ year(s) experience with CAD
- Experience managing outside vendor relationships
- Understanding of mechatronics systems and components
- Hands on experience with precision mechanical assembly and/or machine/fabrication
- Familiarity with shop metrology methods/tools
- Experience with project management/collaboration software (such as Jira/Confluence)
- Experience with PLM software

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $165,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
