The role of UI/UX designers is central to improving accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of the HHSC eligibility systems.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
Proven UX Design Experience: Extensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high-fidelity), and usability testing.
Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure that design decisions are aligned with business objectives.
Employ a comprehensive suite of tools including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar and implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
Experience with AI/ML Interfaces: Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
Complex System Design: Ability to understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements, particularly in domains like government services, healthcare, or finance.
Data Visualization: Skill in presenting complex data and AI insights in a clear, concise, and understandable visual format
Empathy and User Advocacy: Deep commitment to understanding user needs and advocating for user-centered design principles.
Collaboration & Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders.
Understanding of Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design.
Bonus: Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.
II. CANDIDATE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
4 years Required Hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
4 years Required Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
4 years Required Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
4 years Required Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
5 years Preferred Experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
3 years Preferred Demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
3 years Preferred Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
3 years Preferred Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort.
