Job Details

WebSphere Application Server administrator

Location: Fully Remote (Columbus OH)

Experience Required: 10+ Years

Systems SME with deep expertise in WebSphere Application Server administration, cloud systems (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform), and containerized application platforms on Linux/AIX. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting complex multi-tier, multi-platform enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for enterprise systems and WebSphere administration.
  • Perform upgrades, patching, and security hardening on WebSphere servers.
  • Monitor and optimize application and system performance.
  • Configure and deploy WebSphere on AIX/Linux platforms.
  • Write and deploy shell scripts to automate administrative tasks.
  • Manage SSL certificates, application security, and troubleshoot integration issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement enterprise solutions.
  • Manage containerized deployments (Docker/Podman/Kubernetes/OpenShift).
  • Support cloud infrastructure on Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation and respond to infrastructure alerts.
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Nexus) and version control systems (Git, SVN).

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience with WebSphere Application Server administration.
  • Strong hands-on with Unix/Linux/Windows OS system administration.
  • 8+ years managing MuleSoft, RabbitMQ, Docker/Podman, Prometheus, Azure CI/CD.
  • Expertise deploying Containers, Microservices, and Kubernetes in on-prem and cloud environments.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, firewalls, load balancing, SSO, IP subnets.
  • Experience with monitoring tools: Splunk, Dynatrace, Azure Monitor.
  • Proficiency in Azure pipelines and infrastructure-as-code deployments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience in high-availability, disaster recovery, and enterprise scaling strategies.

Desired / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Certifications: WebSphere, AIX/Unix/Linux, Azure/AWS, Docker, RedHat OpenShift.
  • Knowledge of Python, PowerShell, JavaScript scripting.
  • Experience with Azure Repos and Azure DevOps.
  • Exposure to Salesforce and SaaS cloud integrations.
