The Workload Automation Scheduler is responsible for designing, creating, and managing automated jobs and schedules within an organization s workload automation platform. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that business processes, batch jobs, and IT operations are executed efficiently, reliably, and according to business requirements. The scheduler collaborates with IT teams, business units, and system administrators to implement automation strategies that optimize resource usage and maintain high system availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and create automated jobs and workflows using workload automation tools (e.g., IBM Workload Scheduler, Control-M, AutoSys, or similar platforms).
Develop and maintain job schedules to ensure timely execution of business processes and IT tasks.
Troubleshoot, and resolve job failures or scheduling conflicts, providing timely support to end-users and stakeholders.
Collaborate with application owners, developers, and support teams to gather requirements and translate them into automation solutions.
Document job definitions, scheduling logic, dependencies, and recovery procedures.
Implement changes and updates to job schedules in alignment with change management practices.
Continuously optimize and tune job schedules to improve performance, efficiency, and system stability.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing for critical automated workloads.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, security standards, and audit requirements related to automated jobs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience with workload automation or job scheduling tools (such as IBM Workload Scheduler, Control-M, AutoSys, or similar).
Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX) and scripting languages (e.g., Shell, PowerShell, Python).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in IT operations, system administration, or DevOps environments.
Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management procedures.
Experience with cloud-based automation tools and environments.
Relevant certifications in workload automation platforms or IT service management.
Work Environment
This position may require on-call support, flexible scheduling, and occasional after-hours work to address critical incidents or maintenance windows. The Workload Automation Scheduler typically works closely with IT teams, business analysts, and application support staff in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
