Job Title: Azure Security Engineer :

Location: Mostly Remote (Occasional travel to Seattle, WA as per client requirements)
Employment Type: Contract

Job Overview :

We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Security Engineer to support the provisioning, management, and security of Azure cloud infrastructure and data services. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Azure Virtual Machines, SQL Server administration, automation, and cloud security best practices. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable operations.

Primary Responsibilities :

Azure VM & Infrastructure Management

  • Provision, configure, and manage Azure Virtual Machines including sizing, availability sets, and scaling.
  • Manage backups, disaster recovery strategies, and ensure high availability.
  • Optimize computing resources for performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance.

Azure Services Administration

  • Deploy and manage Azure services such as Azure Synapse, Storage Accounts, Disks, Fabric, ADF, and other data-related services.
  • Monitor usage, performance, and availability of Azure resources.
  • Perform capacity planning and support resource optimization.

SQL Server Administration

  • Perform installation, configuration, backup, recovery, and performance tuning of SQL Server.
  • Troubleshoot using linked servers, SSIS, and Extended Events.
  • Automate tasks with PowerShell and T-SQL.

Security & Compliance

  • Configure and enforce security controls including NSGs, ASGs, JIT access, Azure Defender, encryption, and policies.
  • Manage identity and access via Azure AD, RBAC, and Managed Identities.
  • Ensure compliance with governance and security standards.

Monitoring & Operational Support

  • Set up and manage monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerts.
  • Perform proactive health checks and troubleshoot issues related to VMs, storage, networking, and platform services.

Automation & Scripting

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell or Azure CLI.
  • Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using ARM templates and Bicep.

Collaboration & Process Adherence

  • Work closely with application, security, and network teams for production and non-production support.
  • Adhere to operational processes and contribute to documentation and best practices.

Technical Skills Required

  • Strong experience with Azure Virtual Machines (Windows), Availability Sets, and Load Balancers.
  • Solid understanding of Azure data services (SQL, ADLS, Storage Accounts).
  • Strong knowledge of Azure security tools: NSGs, Firewalls, Defender for Cloud, Azure Policy, encryption.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell (Azure CLI experience is a plus).
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, and hybrid connectivity (ExpressRoute / VPN Gateway).
  • Exposure to IaC tools such as ARM templates and Bicep.
