OverviewGovCIO is currently hiring an Senior Analytics Engineer for a program with the US Coast Guard. This position will be located in Alexandria, VA area and will be a hybrid remote position.
ResponsibilitiesThe Analytics Engineer will be a self-starter with exceptional technical and organizational skills, responsible for providing comprehensive data analytics and business intelligence support. The primary focus is on the development and administration of Power BI solutions within a secure, fast-paced environment, managing complex data operations, and delivering actionable insights.
- Connect to and integrate diverse data sources (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL databases, flat files, web services) using various Power BI connectivity methods; transform, shape, and model complex datasets to support robust reporting and dashboarding needs.
- Develop and maintain high-quality, high-performance Power BI reports and interactive dashboards, utilizing both standard visuals and custom visuals built with modern web technologies (Javascript/Typescript/React JS).
- Embed Power BI reports seamlessly on Web applications, ensuring a unified user experience.
- Perform deep dives into new and existing database structures to understand schemas and data flow; independently write, maintain, update, and performance-tune complex SQL queries for efficient analysis and reporting.
- Lead efforts to migrate dashboards from legacy platforms to Power BI; provide expert technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for all assigned Power BI solutions.
- Gather comprehensive requirements from diverse stakeholders, communicate complex analysis effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, and work effectively within an Agile/SDLC methodology framework.
QualificationsBachelor's degree with 8+ years of total experience (or commensurate experience).
Required Skills and Experience - Minimum of 5+ years of overall experience in data analytics or business intelligence roles.
- Minimum of 3+ years of recent and relevant hands-on experience specifically with Power BI.
- Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, etc.).
- Deep, hands-on expertise with the full Power BI suite of technologies (Desktop, Service, Gateway, etc.).
- Strong SQL skills (2-3 years) and a solid understanding of relational and dimensional data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema).
- Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data pipeline management.
- Experience with technologies such as, Javascript/Typescript/React JS, and the Node/npm ecosystem for custom visualizations and application integration.
- Strong understanding of Web application architecture principles (HTTP, HTML, restful API concepts, security protocols).
- Exceptional communication skills, with the proven ability to present complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences .
Clearance Required: Must be clearable up to an active Secret clearance.
Preferred Skills and Experience - US Coast Guard experience is highly preferred.
- Experience within a DoD or U.S. Coast Guard environment.
