Summary

Position: Data Architect

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Hiring: W2 Contract / Fulltime

The Data Architect will define data models, standards, integration patterns, and governance practices that ensure data quality, scalability, and security across cloud and on-prem environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Define and maintain enterprise data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Establish data standards, naming conventions, and metadata practices to ensure consistency across systems.
Design scalable data integration patterns for batch and real-time pipelines, working closely with ETL/ELT and streaming teams.
Lead database design and optimization for OLTP, OLAP, data lake, and data warehouse platforms.
Collaborate with solution architects, data engineers, BI developers, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into data solutions.
Define and enforce data security, privacy, and compliance controls in collaboration with InfoSec and legal teams.
Evaluate and recommend data technologies, tools, and best practices (cloud data services, distributed storage, query engines).
Create architecture diagrams, technical standards, and implementation guides; review designs and mentor engineering teams.
Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization for data platforms.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise data architectures in medium-to-large organizations.
Strong data modeling skills for transactional and analytical systems, with expertise in dimensional modeling and normalization tactics.
Hands-on experience with data warehouse and data lake architectures, and familiarity with lakehouse patterns.
Experience with cloud data platforms (examples: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and cloud-native data services (examples: ADF, Synapse, Snowflake, Databricks).
Practical knowledge of ETL/ELT tools.
Familiarity with metadata management, data catalogs, and lineage tools (examples: Collibra, Alation)
Solid understanding of data security, encryption, masking, and regulatory compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA where applicable).
Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
