Mainframe Computer Operator - Contract - Raleigh, NC - $40.00 - $43.00/hr.

The final salary or hourly wage, as applicable, paid to each candidate/applicant for this position is ultimately dependent on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's/applicant's qualifications, skills, and level of experience as well as the geographical location of the position.

Our client is seeking a Mainframe Computer Operator in Raleigh, NC.

Role Description
To operate the Mainframe system in such a manner as to complete all production and development work daily.

Operates the Mainframe and monitors system performance by means of the system consoles.
Ensures that input data files are entered as required in order to maintain production schedules.
Performs to completion all assigned production work, and test work for the assigned shift.
Reacts to messages from system or applications software and ensures that input data files are provided as required.
Must have basic batch job scheduling knowledge, OS/MVS & JES2 commands, and other skills.
Analyzes potential problems and takes corrective action and/or seeks assistance.
Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of operating procedures and standards.
Maintains records required to supplement console log, including documentation of problems and action taken.
Identifies system malfunctions; initiates corrective action to maintain production schedules.
Interprets console messages from system software or application programs, and initiates action required.
Must learn how to place service calls and follow proper escalation procedures.
Will be required to complete relevant operator and company training.
Must follow company standards and procedures.
May be required to work overtime for adequate coverage on all shifts.
Maintains a neat and orderly work environment.
Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Skills & Requirements

1 - 3 years of Mainframe computer operations experience and some college education is preferred.
Good mechanical aptitude, and the ability to adhere to detailed instructions, be alert, dependable, and strive for efficiency.
Must adhere to the work schedule and attendance policy established by manager.
Should have analytical thought processes, be detail oriented, and able to follow complex instructions.
Be able to review all types of TWS/IWS schedule changes and run daily batch processing on assigned shift with little assistance.
Have adequate knowledge of master console commands with little to no assistance.
Have a good overall understanding of daily batch processing and the critical path.
Has attained MS Office experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Occasionally needs some guidance and supervision.
Previous technical experience or education is preferred.
Permanent shift assignments may be made as needed.
Must have strong writing and communication skills.
Must be able to cooperate and collaborate with co-workers.
Must be cordial in all interactions with members and co-workers.
Minimally 3 years experience as a computer operator; prefer someone more Sr in skills but will take 3 years +
Must have experience in basic batch job scheduling knowledge, OS/MVS & JES2 commands, and other skills.
Must have experience with scheduling systems. Company uses TWS / IWS- which is Tivoli Workload scheduler so this would be ideal, but any scheduling system will do. They will be reviewing TWS/IWS schedule changes and will run daily batch processing on assigned shift with little assistance.
Must have MVS and JES2 skills
Has attained MS Office experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
