Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary

Core Technical Focus:

FEA + Hand Calculations: Look for candidates who have performed both analytical and simulation-based stress/structural analyses ideally using tools like ANSYS, NASTRAN, or Abaqus.
Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems: Prior experience designing or integrating fluid power systems (valves, actuators, pumps, hoses, manifolds, etc.) is key. Watch for fluid power, hydraulic circuits, or pneumatic controls on resumes.
Sheet Metal Design: Candidates should show solid CAD skills (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) and experience with manufacturability, tolerance, and GD&T for sheet metal components.

Experience Level & Context:

Minimum 5 years in new product development or mechanical systems engineering preferably within automotive, off-highway, construction equipment, or heavy machinery domains.
Keywords to target: subsystem design, prototype development, testing, validation, mechanical integration, fluid systems, FEA validation.

Red Flags or Gaps to Watch For:

No mention of subsystem ownership (e.g., only small part design experience instead of full assembly responsibility).
Little to no exposure to automation or heavy equipment environments.
No evidence of mentoring or technical leadership may not be ready for senior or lead-level roles.

Titles: Mechanical Design Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Hydraulics Design Engineer, Heavy Equipment Design Engineer, Structural Analyst.
