Test Automation Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Test Engineer to support WMATA's Web Modernization and SmarTrip Mobile App 2.0 projects. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in test automation, Selenium, JavaScript, functional/integration/regression testing, API testing, and Agile/Scrum environments.

The role will be responsible for developing test strategies and automation, executing comprehensive testing, managing defects, supporting UAT and releases, and working closely with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and vendor teams.

Responsibilities

• Review business requirements, user stories, functional specifications, and technical designs.

• Develop test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test data.

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using industry-standard tools and frameworks.

• Perform functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.

• Test web, mobile, API, and backend functionality.

• Validate application integrations and interfaces between systems.

• Identify, document, track, and verify defects through resolution.

• Participate in defect triage and troubleshoot issues with development teams.

• Analyze application changes and determine their impact on automation suites.

• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and coordinate with business stakeholders.

• Support CI/CD and automated regression testing.

• Work with Development, DevOps, Infrastructure, and vendor teams during deployments and releases.

• Prepare testing status reports, metrics, and release-readiness assessments.

• Provide production validation and post-deployment testing support.

Required Skills

• 9+ years of Software Testing / QA experience.

• 8+ years developing and executing automated test scripts using Selenium and JavaScript.

• Strong experience with Functional, Integration, System, Regression, and End-to-End Testing.

• Experience testing Web, Mobile, and Enterprise Applications.

• Hands-on experience with:

  • Selenium

  • JavaScript

  • C#

  • .NET Framework / .NET Core

  • SQL Server and/or Oracle

• Strong experience analyzing requirements and creating comprehensive test plans and test cases.

• Experience with Defect Tracking and Test Management Tools.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
