Job Title: DevOps & Oracle WebLogic Engineer
Location: Oakland, CA, or Alpharetta, GA
Mode: Contract – Onsite from Day 1
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced DevOps & Oracle WebLogic Engineer responsible for designing, automating, deploying, and supporting enterprise Java application platforms. The role combines strong DevOps engineering capabilities with hands-on Oracle WebLogic Server administration, with a focus on CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code, containerization, platform reliability, security, monitoring, and production stability.
The engineer will work closely with application development, QA, database, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to establish automated, repeatable, secure, and scalable application delivery processes while ensuring the availability and performance of WebLogic environments.
Key Responsibilities – DevOps
Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or Azure DevOps for automated build, testing, deployment, validation, and rollback of enterprise Java applications.
Automate infrastructure provisioning and application/middleware configuration using Ansible, Terraform, WLST, Python, and Shell scripting, replacing manual activities with reusable and version-controlled automation.
Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management frameworks to ensure consistent deployments across development, QA, staging, and production environments.
Build, package, and manage applications and middleware components using Docker, with exposure to container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and OpenShift.
Support containerization and modernization of middleware workloads, including deployment of WebLogic applications using the WebLogic Kubernetes Operator where applicable.
Manage Git-based source control, branching and merging strategies, pull/merge requests, versioning, and release tagging.
Manage application artifacts and dependencies using repositories such as Nexus and JFrog Artifactory.
Implement automated monitoring, logging, dashboards, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and related observability technologies.
Integrate DevSecOps controls into CI/CD pipelines, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, certificate management, code/artifact scanning, and security/compliance validation.
Manage application releases across multiple environments, including change management, deployment coordination, rollback planning, release validation, and post-production checks.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying manual or repetitive operational activities and converting them into automated workflows and self-service capabilities.
Participate in production support, on-call rotation, incident response, problem management, and root-cause analysis, and develop runbooks and knowledge articles for recurring operational issues.
Work closely with developers, QA engineers, DBAs, infrastructure, network, cloud, and security teams to improve deployment frequency, reduce manual effort, and shorten lead time from code commit to production.
Oracle WebLogic Responsibilities
The engineer will serve as a technical SME for the administration, automation, performance, availability, and lifecycle management of Oracle WebLogic Server environments.
Install, configure, administer, and support Oracle WebLogic Server 12c and 14c, including Admin Servers, Managed Servers, domains, clusters, machines, and Node Manager.
Design and maintain highly available WebLogic environments using clustering, load balancing, failover, and session replication.
Automate WebLogic domain creation, configuration, deployments, and administration using WLST, WebLogic Deploy Tooling (WDT), REST APIs, Ansible, Python, and Shell scripting.
Deploy and manage EAR, WAR, and JAR applications, supporting automated and zero/minimal-downtime deployment approaches where appropriate.
Configure and tune JVM heap settings, garbage collection, execute/thread pools, Work Managers, JDBC data sources, connection pools, and application-specific parameters.
Configure and administer JMS servers, modules, queues, topics, persistent stores, Store-and-Forward services, and JNDI resources.
Integrate WebLogic with load-balancing and web-tier technologies such as Oracle HTTP Server, Apache HTTP Server, and F5.
Configure and troubleshoot SSL/TLS, certificates, keystores, security realms, LDAP/Active Directory integration, authentication, authorization, and SSO.
Perform WebLogic and Oracle middleware patching, Critical Patch Updates, PSUs, and OPatch activities, including pre-checks, backup, validation, and rollback planning.
Plan and execute WebLogic upgrades, migrations, domain cloning, environment refreshes, and platform modernization initiatives.
Perform proactive WebLogic health monitoring and capacity/performance analysis using Oracle Enterprise Manager, WLDF, JVM monitoring tools, logs, and observability platforms.
Troubleshoot complex production issues including:
Stuck and hogging threads
JVM memory and heap issues
Garbage collection problems
Memory leaks
JDBC connection pool exhaustion
Application deployment failures
JMS failures
SSL/certificate issues
Server startup/shutdown failures
High CPU and memory utilization
Slow application response
Analyze thread dumps, heap dumps, JVM statistics, WebLogic logs, logs, and application logs as part of performance troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
Support migration of traditional WebLogic workloads to Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift or cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) based on the organization's modernization roadmap.
