Position / Job Title: Tools Engineer
Alpharetta/Cincinnati/Seattle - Locals Only
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Platform Administration & Maintenance (SolarWinds)
• Administer and maintain SolarWinds modules including NPM, NCM, NTA, SAM and Orion
platform components.
• Perform platform health checks and monitoring infrastructure validation.
• Support upgrades, patches, hotfixes and maintenance activities.
• Monitor polling engines and platform services.
• Validate backup and maintenance activities.
Network & Device Monitoring Operations
• Execute network discoveries and onboard monitored devices.
• Configure monitoring templates, device pollers and monitoring policies.
• Maintain nodes, interfaces, groups and custom properties.
• Support NCM backup, compliance and configuration management activities.
• Create and maintain topology maps and monitoring dashboards.
Alerting, Reporting & ITSM Integration
• Configure and maintain alerts, thresholds and notification workflows.
• Investigate recurring and false alerts.
• Generate operational reports and dashboards.
• Support ITSM integrations and automated ticket generation.
• Validate monitoring to ticket lifecycle workflows.
Incident Support & Troubleshooting
• Troubleshoot polling failures, node issues and monitoring gaps.
• Resolve SNMP, WMI, WinRM, Syslog and NetFlow collection issues.
• Support root cause analysis for monitoring incidents.
• Coordinate with infrastructure teams during major incidents.
• Escalate platform issues to SMEs and vendors when required.
Integration & Automation Support
• Support API-based integrations.
• Execute and maintain approved PowerShell automation scripts.
• Participate in monitoring enhancement initiatives.
• Support tool integrations with operational platforms.
Multi-Tool Monitoring Support
• Support SolarWinds, OpenText NNMi, SCOM and related monitoring tools.
• Assist with cross-platform monitoring operations.
• Maintain monitoring coverage across enterprise environments.
Vendor Coordination & Process Compliance
• Raise and track vendor support cases.
• Collect diagnostics and logs for troubleshooting.
• Maintain SOPs, runbooks and KB documents.
• Follow Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management processes.
