A bit about us:A growing manufacturer of custom automated equipment is seeking an Electrical & Controls Engineer to design, program, integrate, and support control systems for highly customized machinery.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys taking equipment from concept through build, integration, testing, and troubleshooting. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, technicians, vendors, and customer-facing teams to develop reliable automation solutions involving PLCs, HMIs, motion control, robotics, sensors, and other industrial control components.
Why join us?- Build custom equipment from the ground up, not just maintain existing systems.
- Work hands-on with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, and industrial automation.
- Own projects from initial concept and design through build, testing, and implementation.
- Solve unique engineering challenges in a highly customized machine-building environment.
- Collaborate directly with mechanical engineers, technicians, vendors, and customers.
- Gain exposure to a wide range of technologies instead of working on the same equipment every day.
- Join a growing organization offering competitive compensation, strong benefits, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
Job DetailsKey Responsibilities
- Design electrical control systems for custom automated machinery and equipment.
- Develop panel layouts, electrical schematics, wire run lists, BOMs, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Program and configure PLCs and HMIs for machine control and automation applications.
- Develop programs using Ladder Logic and Structured Text.
- Define controls requirements for automated equipment, tooling, material handling, and coordinated machine movements.
- Select and integrate motors, drives, sensors, safety components, and other industrial control hardware.
- Work with vendors and subcontractors to evaluate and integrate specialty components.
- Support machine assembly, integration, testing, startup, and troubleshooting.
- Assist technicians and customer-facing teams with diagnosing electrical and controls issues.
- Support robotic system integration and programming when applicable.
- Develop technical documentation, operating instructions, and user manuals.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industrial safety requirements and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience designing and supporting industrial automation or custom machinery.
- PLC and HMI programming experience. Experience with Allen-Bradley, AutomationDirect, Panasonic, or similar platforms is highly desirable.
- Experience programming in Ladder Logic and/or Structured Text.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar electrical design software.
- Understanding of industrial electrical systems, safety circuits, controls, and machine safety components.
- Experience with motion control, servo systems, robotics, or automated material handling is a plus.
- FANUC robotics experience is beneficial but not required.
- Familiarity with OSHA, CE, and CSA requirements is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
