About the PositionDavid Taylor Heating & Air is looking for an experienced
HVAC Install Manager to lead our residential retrofit/changeout installation department.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands residential HVAC installation and knows how to lead crews, manage schedules, maintain quality standards and keep jobs moving from the time they are sold through final completion.
During busy season, our team completes approximately
15-20 residential changeouts per week. The Install Manager is responsible for keeping crews productive, installations on schedule, customers satisfied and callbacks to a minimum.
What You\'ll DoLead & Develop the Install Team- Lead, coach and hold accountable HVAC lead installers and helpers
- Assign crews based on skill level, job complexity and location
- Conduct daily morning huddles covering jobs, equipment, safety and expectations
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding and training installers
- Handle attendance, performance management, corrective action and timecard approval
- Develop installer skills and help employees progress from helper to lead and senior lead
Manage Residential Installations- Review sold jobs before installation to verify equipment, materials, job notes and special requirements
- Coordinate installation scheduling based on crew capacity and customer commitments
- Work with warehouse and office teams to ensure equipment and materials are ordered, received and staged before installation
- Ensure permits are pulled and inspections are scheduled and completed
- Handle day-of issues including callouts, weather, incorrect equipment and unexpected job-site conditions
- Visit job sites regularly and be present for complex or high-dollar installations
Quality Control & Customer Experience- Maintain high installation standards for brazing, nitrogen purge, evacuation, line sets, drains/condensate, electrical work and code compliance
- Perform or assign quality inspections on completed installations
- Track and correct installation defects
- Own callbacks and warranty issues through resolution
- Address customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Ensure installers complete job-close requirements, including photos, start-up information and paperwork
Control Costs & Performance- Monitor labor hours, overtime and material usage
- Identify margin loss caused by extra materials, return trips or rework
- Ensure jobs are closed promptly so invoicing, rebates, registrations and commissions aren\'t delayed
- Coordinate truck inventory, van stock and material returns with the Warehouse Manager
- Track installation volume, labor efficiency, callbacks, quality results and overtime
Safety- Maintain strong safety standards involving PPE, ladders, attics, electrical work and driving
- Ensure installation vehicles, tools and equipment are properly maintained, stocked and accounted for
What We\'re Looking ForRequired:- 5+ years of residential HVAC installation experience
- 2+ years of experience leading HVAC installation crews
- Strong hands-on knowledge of residential HVAC changeouts
- Experience with split systems, heat pumps, gas furnaces, air handlers and ductwork
- EPA 608 Universal certification
- Working knowledge of mechanical/electrical codes and permitting/inspection processes
- Valid driver\'s license with a clean driving record
- Comfortable using ServiceTitan or a similar field-service platform, or able to learn it quickly
- Strong leadership, organization and communication skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and hold teams accountable
Preferred:- NATE certification
- Experience with ductless mini-splits, dual-fuel and variable-speed systems
- Experience with Manual J load calculations and/or Manual D duct design
- Previous experience with a high-volume residential HVAC replacement company
Physical RequirementsThis is a hands-on HVAC leadership position. Candidates must be able to:
- Work in attics, crawlspaces and outdoors in extreme temperatures
- Lift up to 75 lbs.
- Climb ladders
- Kneel, bend and crawl for extended periods
