Role Overview
This position is for a Senior Systems Engineer to join a team focused on defense, space, and security projects. The role involves ensuring the reliability, maintainability, and testability of systems, equipment, and processes throughout the project lifecycle. This is a non-managerial, non-leadership position where the individual will apply engineering principles and industry best practices to minimize operational risks and improve system availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop, and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
- Analyze system requirements and develop a reliability, maintainability, and system health (RM&SH) engineering program plan.
- Allocate and predict failure rates (Mean Time Between Failure) for components and systems.
- Develop Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) to assess overall system reliability.
- Perform Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate risks of system failure.
- Assess Fault Detection and Fault Isolation metrics for availability impacts.
- Supervise testing and demonstrations to evaluate reliability factors.
- Conduct closed-loop Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) to establish root cause and failure trends.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company safety policies.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science is required.
Experience: This position requires 9 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. Candidates must have experience in reliability, maintainability, and safety engineering within the aerospace, manufacturing, or related industries.
Technical Skills: Experience with reliability, maintainability, testability, and safety standards is required. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior aerospace and defense experience in avionics, radar, sensors, hydro-mechanical systems, mechanisms, structural engineering, or reliability and maintainability.
- Military experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of aviation/aerospace certification and regulatory frameworks (FAA, MIL-HDBK-516C).
- Experience in risk management and quality assurance processes.
