The Director of Environmental, Health, Safety & Facilities Maintenance leads the strategy, systems, and culture that keep Daniel Defense\'s people safe and its operations compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental and workplace safety regulations, while also owning the facilities and maintenance function that keeps the plant running reliably. This role carries primary, hands-on responsibility for the company\'s EHS program - policy, incident prevention, regulatory reporting, and training across all manufacturing and facility operations - and serves as the company\'s primary point of contact for OSHA, EPA, DOT and related regulatory bodies.
In addition to EHS leadership, this role directs maintenance, reliability, and facilities operations - including TPM deployment, CMMS administration, preventive maintenance, and capital/facility planning - ensuring that safety and operational excellence are treated as inseparable priorities. Given Daniel Defense\'s status as a federally regulated defense manufacturer, this role also ensures EHS and facilities practices align with ITAR requirements and support the company\'s ISO 9001 quality management system.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental, Health & Safety (Primary Focus)
Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and management systems across all facilitiesLead compliance efforts related to OSHA, EPA, DOT, ANSI, NFPA, and applicable state environmental and safety regulations, including permitting, reporting, and auditsEnsure EHS policies, training, and documentation practices support ITAR compliance, including controlled access to technical data within EHS recordkeeping and safe handling of any export-controlled materials or processesMaintain EHS-related documentation, procedures, and audit readiness in alignment with the company\'s ISO 9001 quality management system, including supporting internal and external auditsPartner with Operations leadership to identify and mitigate risk in manufacturing processes, machine operation, chemical handling, and hazardous materials storageOwn incident investigation processes, including root cause analysis, corrective action plans, and trend reporting to leadershipBuild and deliver EHS training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire onboarding and role-specific certificationsManage workers\' compensation case coordination in partnership with HR and PayrollMaintain required environmental permits and ensure timely, accurate regulatory filingsLead emergency preparedness planning, including fire safety, chemical spill response, and evacuation protocolsTrack and report EHS KPIs (incident rates, TRIR, DART, near misses, training completion, audit findings) to executive leadershipBuild a proactive safety culture consistent with Daniel Defense\'s mission and values, encouraging shared ownership of safety at every levelSupervise EHS staff and coordinate with Operations, Quality, Compliance, and Security teams on cross-functional initiatives
Facilities & Maintenance Oversight
Own the facilities and maintenance function end to end, providing director-level leadership over plant maintenance, reliability, and facilities operationsLead Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) implementation and sustainment, and drive Lean manufacturing principles across the maintenance organizationImprove Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through reliability engineering and data-driven maintenanceOwn plant CMMS administration, asset hierarchy, work order processes, and reportingDrive preventive maintenance compliance and implement PM kitting processes that improve technician productivity and schedule adherenceDevelop and maintain critical spare parts strategies that maximize uptime while optimizing inventoryOptimize the balance between internal maintenance resources and contract service providersProvide strategic oversight of facilities, utilities, infrastructure, and capital planning, including managing contractor performance and budgets for facility improvement projectsPartner with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain to improve equipment reliability and lifecycle performanceIntegrate EHS priorities into facilities and maintenance planning, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives
Talent Development & Team Leadership
Directly lead and develop EHS and maintenance staff, including goal setting, performance management, and career growth planningBuild a strong bench across the EHS, facilities, and maintenance organizations to support plant growthResponsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.Participates in the company's efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environmentOther responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
Bachelor\'s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience7+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience, ideally in manufacturing, defense, or a similarly regulated industrial environmentDemonstrated experience leading or overseeing a facilities/maintenance function, including TPM, CMMS, PM compliance, and OEE improvement, is strongly preferredWorking knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards, EPA regulations, DOT, ANSI, NFPA, and applicable Georgia state requirementsFamiliarity with ITAR requirements as they intersect with EHS and facilities operations; a background in a defense manufacturing or export-controlled environment is a strong plusExperience supporting ISO 9001 certified quality management systems and audit processesCSP, CIH, ASP, or similar EHS professional certification preferred; Lean Six Sigma, CMRP, or RCM certification a plusDemonstrated experience building or maturing an EHS program, not just maintaining an existing oneStrong incident investigation, data analysis, and regulatory reporting skillsExcellent cross-functional leadership and communication skills; comfortable partnering with Operations, Quality, Legal, HR, and executive leadershipExperience in firearms, aerospace, automotive, medical device, or other precision manufacturing industries is a plusMust be able to respond to on-site emergencies as needed.Demonstrated ability to recognize and work within our Company Values.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
