Position Summary
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for a physician executive who thrives at the intersection of clinical practice, health information technology, and organizational strategy. The Associate Chief Medical Officer serves as a senior clinical leader and strategic partner to the Chief Medical Officer, operating across the full breadth of athenahealth\'s clinical, product, commercial, marketing, and customer-facing functions. The ACMO is a credible clinical voice both internally and externally ? guiding product development, leading clinical teams, and representing athenahealth in prospect interactions and industry forums.
We seek an experienced people leader who is also a physician?someone who uses clinical expertise to inform business and product decisions and thrives in a fast-paced, matrixed technology organization.
This role is based in Boston ore remotely, with travel expected 25?40% annually. It reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
About the Team
The CMO Division sits at the intersection of athenahealth\'s clinical, product, commercial, marketing, and customer-facing functions ? partnering across virtually every part of the organization and supplying the clinical voice to ensure athenahealth\'s products, services, and customer experience reflect sound clinical judgment and real-world workflow needs. The division includes the Patient Safety, Clinical Content, Clinical Informatics, and Specialty Business Product Strategy teams. They use clinical expertise, customer feedback, and market insight to inform roadmap decisions and strategic priorities. The team also supports internal education, advisory forums, and external conversations with customers and industry stakeholders. The ACMO will share direct report responsibilities for these teams with the CMO, amplify that clinical voice across the organization and with key external stakeholders, and operate with significant independence across the full breadth of the division\'s work.

$207,000 - $351,000The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevantknowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles,and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
