We are seeking a
Model Maker & Hardware Specialist II to support our in-house Model Shop with 3D modeling, fabrication, 3D printing, finishing, and prototype assembly. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys turning digital designs into high-quality physical models and prototypes.
Responsibilities- Create and modify 3D models using CAD and modeling software.
- Prepare files for 3D printing, laser cutting, engraving, and fabrication.
- Operate and troubleshoot 3D printers, primarily FDM printers.
- Build, assemble, and finish prototypes, models, and hardware components.
- Perform sanding, priming, painting, airbrushing, and other finishing tasks.
- Support framing, matting, large-format printing, and mounting projects.
- Assist with quick-turn fabrication and model shop requests.
- Maintain quality, accuracy, and attention to detail throughout all projects.
- Collaborate with team members and maintain a safe, organized workspace.
Required Qualifications- High School Diploma with 2+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong 3D modeling experience and understanding of parametric design.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing and digital fabrication.
- Proficiency with at least one of the following:
- SolidWorks
- Fusion 360
- Blender
- Tinkercad
- Ability to prepare files for printing, cutting, and engraving.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working in a model shop or fabrication environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Studio Arts, or a related field.
- Experience with painting, airbrushing, texturing, and model finishing.
- Familiarity with large-format printing and print shop workflows.
- Experience with light fabrication, hardware assembly, and prototyping.
- Ability to adapt designs across multiple tools and platforms.
Work Environment- Primarily on-site role with regular in-person collaboration.
- Work may be performed in an office, laboratory, cleanroom, or production environment.
- Occasional local travel between company locations may be required.
