Why This RoleNanopore sensing is one of the most demanding analog measurement problems in life sciences: picoamp-scale currents, wide bandwidth, and very low noise, ideally across many channels in parallel. You will own the electronics that make that measurement possible, from the analog front end through the board-level system, and see your designs used directly by the scientists who depend on them.
About Tilde (FL110)Tilde Bio, Inc. (FL110), a Flagship Pioneering company, is building a next-generation biological sensing platform at the intersection of synthetic biology, protein engineering, nanopore biophysics, electrophysiology, signal processing, and machine learning. Our goal is to create programmable biological measurement systems capable of extracting rich molecular information from single-molecule interactions.
We believe nanopores generate a high-dimensional measurement of molecular identity and behavior that remains largely untapped. Unlocking that information requires new computational approaches - ones that don't yet exist - built by people who are comfortable working at the edge of what's known. At Tilde, you will work alongside scientists and engineers from diverse disciplines to help define how a new generation of biological sensing systems extract meaning from the physical world.
Tilde is backed by Flagship Pioneering, which brings the long-term vision and resources needed to build platforms that don't fit neatly into existing categories.
Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in low-noise analog and mixed-signal design and printed circuit board (PCB) design and development to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This individual will play a critical role in the design, layout, integration, and validation of complex PCBs that support our next-generation biological sensing platform.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in low-noise mixed-signal PCB design, signal integrity, power integrity, and system-level integration. This role requires close collaboration with firmware, mechanical, bioengineering, and systems teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, and high-performance hardware solutions from concept through production.
About the Role- Reports to: VP of Technology and Development
- Team: 4 Engineer plus consultants
- Stage: Full product cycle but starting with prototyping
- First-year focus: Prototype sensors
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of complex, multilayer PCBs for advanced instrumentation systems, including low-noise, picoamp-level sensing electronics.
- Architect low-noise, mixed-signal circuit designs including analog front ends, power management, data acquisition, and embedded processing systems.
- Collaborate with SW and HW engineers as well as external vendors to ensure seamless hardware-software integration and instrument development.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation including schematics, layout files, validation reports, and specifications.
- Drive design reviews, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for testability (DFT) best practices.
- Contribute to intellectual property generation and technical strategy discussions.
Basic Qualifications- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of industry experience in PCB design and hardware development.
- Demonstrated expertise in multilayer PCB design for low-noise analog and mixed-signal systems.
- Deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, grounding strategies, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
- Hands-on experience with board bring-up, debugging, and lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers).
- Experience taking products from prototype through manufacturing.
Nice-to-Haves- Experience with low-noise electrophysiology, patch-clamp, or nanopore instrumentation.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., USB, Ethernet, PCIe, DDR, SPI, I2C).
- Experience designing electronics for scientific instrumentation, medical devices, or life sciences platforms.
- Familiarity with FPGA-based systems and embedded processors.
- Experience with high-density interconnect (HDI) design and fine-pitch components.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (e.g., CE, FCC, IEC).
- Experience working in early-stage or startup environments.
