Reporting to the Manager of New Product Development, the GD&T Specialist is a senior technical role focused on supporting the New Product Development (NPD) team through expert review, validation, and improvement of engineering drawings. The primary emphasis of this role is ensuring robust, functional, and manufacturable GD&T dimensioning schemes. The reviewer serves as an advanced technical resource for NPD engineers and designers, helping ensure drawings are clear, inspectable, compliant with applicable standards, and suitable for real-world manufacturing and inspection processes.

As a GD&T Specialist you will:
\n
\n - Serve as the primary GD&T technical resource for the New Product Development team.
\n - Review engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ASME Y14.5-2018 and internal drafting standards.
\n - Collaborate closely with Design Engineers, Project Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, Metrology, and Suppliers to ensure practical and functional dimensioning strategies.
\n - Operate with minimal supervision, exercising independent technical judgment on complex, first-time, or high-risk designs.
\n - Support multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of detail, consistency, and engineering rigor.

GD&T Review, Best Practices & Documentation
\n
\n - Perform detailed reviews of component, sub-assembly, and assembly drawings with emphasis on datum schemes, tolerance selection, functional dimensioning, and inspection feasibility.
\n - Apply GD&T with a strong focus on practical manufacturing and metrology considerations, including machining processes, inspection methods, and gaging strategies.
\n - Identify and resolve ambiguous, conflicting, over-constrained, or non-functional GD&T callouts.
\n - Evaluate tolerance stack-ups and assess functional impact on fit, form, function, and producibility.
\n - Ensure drawings are optimized for manufacturability and inspection, including CMM, manual gaging, and supplier inspection capabilities.
\n - Develop, document, and maintain NPD-focused GD&T best practices, guidelines, and standard examples. Work with the training team to train the NPD design resources on these standards.
\n - Create and maintain reference materials, example libraries, and training content illustrating proper and practical GD&T usage.
\n - Drive consistency and continuous improvement in drawing quality and GD&T application within the NPD organization.

Technical Support & Mentorship
\n
\n - Provide expert support and consultation to engineers and designers developing new parts or updating tolerance strategies.
\n - Mentor designers and engineers on advanced and applied GD&T concepts, emphasizing functional intent and real-world application.
\n - Assist in resolving drawing- and tolerance-related issues discovered during manufacturing, inspection, supplier production, or early product validation.

We are looking for someone who:
\n
\n - Holds an Associate s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical discipline OR a Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
\n - Has 10+ years of experience without a Bachelor s degree OR 5+ years with a Bachelor s degree in relevant roles.
\n - Possesses advanced expertise in GD&T with strong working knowledge of ASME Y14.5-2018 and practical application.
\n - Has hands-on experience applying GD&T in manufacturing and/or inspection environments.
\n
\n
Ideally you will also have:
\n
\n - Formal GD&T certification (e.g., ASME Y14.5 Professional or equivalent).
\n - Experience supporting New Product Development or R&D environments.
\n - Experience developing engineering standards, best practices, or training materials.
\n - Advanced Creo / Windchill or CAD superuser experience.
\n
