Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Enterprise Network to lead a highly skilled team responsible for a large, complex, and geographically distributed network environment. This role is ideal for a leader who began their career in network engineering and later transitioned into people and technology management. The successful candidate will not be expected to serve as the primary hands-on engineer, but they must possess the technical depth necessary to lead experienced network professionals, evaluate proposed solutions, guide complex initiatives, and make informed decisions across the enterprise network environment. The Senior Manager will play an important role in network integration, infrastructure modernization, merger-and-acquisition activity, SD-WAN consolidation, and the future migration of on-premises infrastructure into Google Cloud Platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of enterprise network engineering professionals.
- Provide technical and operational direction across enterprise routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, DNS, IP addressing, network monitoring, and related technologies.
- Establish clear priorities, accountability, and operating structure for a highly technical network team.
- Maintain sufficient technical depth to review designs, challenge recommendations, assess risk, and guide engineering decisions.
- Support the integration of network environments resulting from mergers, acquisitions, and organizational consolidation.
- Lead or oversee IP overlap analysis, IP remediation, DNS integration, routing integration, and network consolidation activities.
- Support the ongoing consolidation and standardization of enterprise SD-WAN technologies.
- Participate in the design and implementation of networking capabilities required to support migration into Google Cloud Platform.
- Partner with cybersecurity, architecture, infrastructure, application, and business teams on enterprise technology initiatives.
- Oversee the stability, availability, performance, and security of the enterprise network environment.
- Ensure network changes follow established ITIL and change-management processes.
- Review and present planned changes through the appropriate change-approval process.
- Coordinate and lead the team during complex network changes, including occasional night or weekend implementations.
- Identify operational risks, resource needs, technical gaps, and opportunities to improve the structure and effectiveness of the network organization.
- Develop network standards, documentation, processes, and roadmaps that support continued business growth and future acquisitions.
- Communicate technical issues, risks, priorities, and recommendations clearly to both technical teams and senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: 10 or more years of experience in network engineering, network infrastructure, or a closely related field, with at least three years of experience leading network engineering or infrastructure teams. Previous hands-on experience as a network engineer, architect, or senior technical network professional is required.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of enterprise routing and switching technologies, as well as a strong understanding of firewalls, SD-WAN, DNS, IP addressing, network segmentation, and network monitoring in a large, distributed enterprise network. Experience supporting network integrations associated with mergers or acquisitions is required, including IP overlap identification and remediation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Cisco routing and switching.
- Experience with Cisco Meraki SD-WAN and Cisco Viptela.
- Experience with Fortinet firewalls.
- Experience with Cisco ThousandEyes or Cisco Umbrella.
- Experience designing or supporting network infrastructure within Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience supporting colocation-to-cloud or on-premises-to-cloud migrations.
- Experience with ServiceNow change management.
- Experience operating within an acquisition-driven organization with frequent network integrations.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position requiring two to three days per week in one of the organization's designated offices. The position may occasionally require night or weekend availability to support planned network changes and major implementations. Compensatory time is available for approved after-hours work.
