Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Android Platform Engineer to join a platform stability and systems engineering team.
This is a hands-on role focused on diagnosing and resolving complex Android platform issues across the Android framework, system services, native layers, and vendor components.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AOSP source code, Android framework internals, C++, Java, Kotlin, Binder/AIDL, middleware, HAL/vendor integration, and low-level Android debugging.
Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS) is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop Android middleware and background/system services.
- Debug and reverse-engineer complex issues directly from AOSP source code.
- Investigate and resolve Android platform stability and reliability issues.
- Resolve Android upgrade and platform integration issues across releases.
- Diagnose issues within system_server, including Activity Manager, Window Manager, Package Manager, and related framework components.
- Troubleshoot Car Service, SurfaceFlinger, boot failures, black screens, ANRs, crashes, and other platform-level issues.
- Perform detailed root-cause analysis for ambiguous or difficult-to-reproduce issues.
- Provide technical direction to engineers working on complex platform problems.
- Modify and contribute to AOSP framework/platform components.
- Troubleshoot issues across framework, native services, HAL, and vendor layers.
- Investigate and resolve CTS, VTS, ATS, and STS compliance failures.
- Collaborate with SoC/silicon vendors on platform integration and bring-up activities.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on Android platform/framework development.
- Strong experience with AOSP source code.
- Strong programming skills in C++, Java, and Kotlin.
- Experience developing Android middleware and system/background services.
- Strong understanding of Binder/AIDL and Android IPC.
- Experience working with Android framework and system services.
- Experience troubleshooting complex Android platform stability issues.
- Experience working across framework, native, and vendor layers.
- Strong debugging and root-cause-analysis skills.
- Ability to independently investigate ambiguous and high-impact technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS).
- Experience with Car Service / Vehicle HAL (VHAL).
- Experience with Android HAL and vendor integration.
- Experience with CTS, VTS, ATS, and STS.
- Knowledge of Android graphics and display systems.
- Experience with SurfaceFlinger.
- Experience with Perfetto, Systrace, logcat, LLDB, GDB, or perf.
- Knowledge of Soong/Make, Android.bp, and Android partition architecture.
- Experience with SoC/vendor platform bring-up.
- Automotive, embedded systems, IVI, or infotainment experience.
