Role Synopsis
We are seeking a technically excellent engineering leader with high personal integrity and a bias for action to lead Facilities Engineering across the Permian asset. This role owns facility performance at the pad level ? process safety, driving optimization, commissioning excellence, and technical problem-solving that directly impacts production reliability and operating cost.
Based in Denver and reporting to the Engineering Manager, this leader builds and develops a team of facility engineers embedded in route teams alongside operators and production engineers. The FETL partners with Production, Maintenance, Reliability, Construction, Commissioning, and Program Engineering to deliver integrated facility solutions that keep wells flowing and costs low.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. We need someone who can troubleshoot a separator in the morning and coach an engineer on their development plan in the afternoon. Someone who sets high standards, holds people accountable with respect, and builds a team culture where people take ownership and do the right thing ? even when no one is watching.
Key Accountabilities
- Own facility performance and optimization across the Permian asset ? equipment uptime, facility-related deferment reduction, and surface operating efficiency on every route.
- Lead a team of facility engineers who are embedded in route teams as technical owners of surface equipment. Each engineer knows their equipment intimately and solves problems with engineering rigor ? not band-aids.
- Drive commissioning engineering excellence ? ensure new facilities are engineered for startup, optimized from first oil, and handed off to operations in steady-state condition.
- Serve as the integration point between facility engineering and key programs: integrity management, compression optimization, flowback, chemicals, and emissions reduction.
- Lead engineering solutions that improve uptime, production efficiency, and long-term asset performance. Identify and resolve bottlenecks in surface equipment that limit production or create operational risk.
- Support the process safety program through MOC, risk assessments, design reviews, and barrier management for facility modifications.
- Partner with Construction & Maintenance to prioritize facility work ? what needs to be fixed now vs. what can wait. Provide engineering input on repair decisions and facility modifications.
- Lead or support incident investigations, root cause failure analyses, and corrective action closure for facility-related events.
- Build team capability through coaching, performance management, technical development, and succession planning. Set clear expectations and hold people accountable for results.
- Provide visible safety and operational leadership through field presence, technical engagement, and active participation in route reviews and production meetings.
Essential Experience and Education
- Bachelor\'s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Civil, or related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in oil and gas production operations, facilities engineering, or related upstream engineering roles.
- Direct experience with surface production facilities ? separators, compression, metering, flowlines, tank batteries, SCADA/controls, and associated equipment.
- Strong understanding of Permian Basin (Delaware or Midland) production operations, or analogous unconventional multi-well pad development.
- Experience with new facility commissioning ? from engineering walkdowns through first oil and optimization to steady-state handoff.
- Working knowledge of process safety fundamentals: MOC, HAZOP, PSI, and mechanical integrity.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex facility problems in the field and deliver engineered solutions ? not just identify issues, but fix them.
- Ability to spend approximately 25% of time in the field supporting technical problem-solving, safety leadership, and team engagement.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills ? ability to work across engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams with credibility.
- Self-starter who takes ownership, drives continuous improvement, and makes decisions with incomplete information when the situation requires it.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with PI System / PI Vision, SCADA data analysis, and data-driven optimization.
- Familiarity with integrity management programs, fitness-for-service evaluations, and inspection planning.
- Project management experience ? managing small-to-mid brownfield capital projects from concept through execution.
- Experience with artificial lift systems (ESP, rod pump, gas lift) as they relate to surface facility configuration.
Compensation & Benefits
How much do we pay (Base)?
$206,000-$242,000
Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
