Job DescriptionWe have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Wet Seals team reporting to the Engineering Manager of High Duty. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will either be under direct supervision performs a variety of engineering and design tasks requiring application of standard techniques and procedures & using engineering judgement and responsibilities to resolve customer inquiries. This role will also offer guidance and support to other engineers within the team.
PRIMARY DUTIES (Applications):- Review & processing of Application Requests
- Following standard techniques and procedures, select / apply standard or special products to meet customers' needs, including seals, fluid control products, couplings, filters, bearings
- Generation of engineering proposals / specifications for standard or special products, including determining cost-effective materials for production
- Advanced Seal calculations (including leakage calculations, heat generation, balance temp, flow rates etc.)
- Advanced use of CSTEDY & similar tools for in-depth design analysis, including approval of others' basic CSTEDY reports [ME3]
- Fluid control calculations as required
- Advanced Couplings calculations as required
- Other engineering calculations as required
- Provide applications direction and approval to CAD personnel to complete layout (GA) and detail drawings
- Prepare material and other relevant product specifications for internal and external use
- In-depth field troubleshooting, including analysis of problems / recommendation & implementation of appropriate solutions, lead meetings with customers in plant or at customer's site to resolve satisfactorily
- Detailed failure analysis activities, including full investigation / reporting / resolution with customer with necessary commercial awareness [ME3]
- Approve / reject purchase or manufacture of fabricated parts not to drawing specification ('quality clinics')
- Create / assist in the creation of application software, analysis programs or selection criteria, for new or existing products
PRIMARY DUTIES (Product Development):- Develop and implement clear plans for new products and enhancments in co-operation with PLM where appropriate
- Project manage development programmes to plan and budget
- Support the transition of a product from development into production
- Perform and monitor the testing of mechanical seal designs, whether as part of product development or for customer-specific tests
- Build prototype models for test and evaluation
- Assist Marketing with design, performance, and application criteria on existing designs or product enhancements
PRIMARY DUTIES (other):- Detailed technical presentations to customers in order to support sales
- Deliver detailed technical training externally to customers as required
- Manage and report personal workload, forecast job lead-times to meet customer and departmental objectives
- Raise / process / approve Engineering Change Notice (GCN) requests
- Create new or update existing standards to control design criteria, application of products, and procedures
- Create & distribute technical bulletins, articles, or papers dealing with product, application, or system design
- Maintain engineering databases
- Provide technical support via the Engineering Help Desk, if appropriate / as required
Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon local business / departmental needs
QualificationsEducation: typically an accredited B Eng degree (UK) or overseas equivalent; additional qualifications an advantage; engineer may be pursuing local 'chartered' status (e.g. C Eng in UK, overseas equivalent)
Experience: typically at least 5 years' relevant experience in an application or development role, with extensive relevant product / equipment / industry knowledge.
