Position: Satellite Systems Engineer
Location: Dulles, VA
About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to support advanced space system programs and mission-focused initiatives. In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define system architectures, develop mission concepts, manage requirements, and support major program milestones throughout the system lifecycle.
You will play a key role in mission analysis, systems engineering, interface management, and technical planning to ensure successful delivery of complex space-based capabilities.
Responsibilities
Support major program milestones, technical reviews, and readiness assessments by developing technical content and executive-level presentations.
Create, review, and maintain program documentation, data products, and technical deliverables.
Collaborate with mission partners to develop and model mission-level architectures and operational concepts.
Perform mission assessments and define Design Reference Missions (DRMs).
Conduct engineering and mission analyses, including:
Propellant budget analysis
On-orbit fuel assessments
RF link budget analysis
Mission lifetime estimation
Develop analysis tools and automation solutions to support engineering activities.
Manage and decompose system requirements from mission-level objectives through subsystem implementation.
Lead interface management activities and develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
Support system integration, verification, validation, and mission planning efforts.
Work closely with cross-functional teams across systems, software, hardware, and mission operations disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or
Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience, or
PhD and 1 year of relevant experience.
Experience in Systems Engineering, including:
Technical baseline definition and change control
Requirements development and verification
Interface definition and management
Hardware and software integration
Mission planning and execution
Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with spacecraft systems engineering, integration, and testing.
Experience with system architecture development, CONOPS creation, or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
Experience developing and delivering presentations to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
Experience leading technical teams or cross-functional initiatives.
Proficiency with engineering and modelling tools such as:
Cameo
Python
MATLAB
STK
STOL
Knowledge of one or more of the following domains:
Orbit analysis and orbital mechanics
Spacecraft attitude control
Communications systems and RF analysis
Avionics and digital electronics
Power systems modelling
Orbital debris analysis
Risk assessment and mission assurance
Spacecraft integration and testing
Experience supporting mission operations, anomaly resolution, operations & maintenance, or installation management activities.
