Integration Engineer with deep hands-on Workday API expertise and strong enterprise integration engineering skills. This role focuses on designing, developing, and troubleshooting API-driven HR integrations between Workday and other enterprise platforms.
The ideal candidate combines Workday technical expertise with strong software engineering fundamentals, including API architecture, authentication, error handling, and cross-platform integration.
This is a hands-on engineering role, not a functional HRIS, project management, or Workday Studio-only position.
*This role is Fully Remote*
The ideal candidate is a true integration engineer who can independently build and troubleshoot complex Workday HR integrations, understand what is happening at the API level, and apply engineering best practices across multiple enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, deploy, and support integrations using Workday REST and SOAP APIs.
Develop and troubleshoot XML payloads, API requests/responses, authentication, and security configurations.
Work with Workday data models, object relationships, and Business Process logic.
Diagnose complex integration failures through raw API analysis, data validation, and troubleshooting.
Develop reliable integrations with robust error handling, retry mechanisms, logging, and monitoring.
Integrate Workday with external enterprise systems using middleware, APIs, and orchestration tools such as Microsoft Power Automate.
Own integration delivery from technical design through testing, deployment, and production support.
Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to communicate solutions, risks, and recommendations.
Required Qualifications
4+ years of hands-on Workday integration development experience, specifically supporting HR integrations.
Strong experience with Workday SOAP Web Services and REST APIs, including reading and writing data.
Ability to manually construct, inspect, and troubleshoot API requests and responses.
Strong knowledge of XML, namespaces, schema validation, and Workday integration security (ISU/ISSG).
Understanding of Workday data structures, business processes, and API behavior.
Hands-on experience integrating Workday with external enterprise platforms using middleware, APIs, or programming languages.
Proven experience independently designing, developing, deploying, and supporting production integrations.
Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Power Automate or similar integration/orchestration platforms.
Experience with API-driven architecture and event-driven integration patterns.
Knowledge of validation frameworks, safe retry strategies, and integration monitoring.
Workday Studio experience is beneficial but not sufficient on its own.
