Title: SCADA Engineer

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced SCADA Engineer to support SCADA and operational technology initiatives within a utility environment. The engineer will work with SCADA systems, real-time simulation/HIL environments, protection and automation systems, and utility operational technology platforms to support system integration, testing, troubleshooting, upgrades, and modernization efforts.
The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical/power-system foundation, hands-on experience with SCADA communications, protection and automation, and practical experience with real-time simulation or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments. The candidate should also understand the integration of OT and IT systems and have experience supporting system upgrades, migrations, integrations, or platform modernization initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Support the design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of SCADA and operational technology systems within a utility environment.
- Develop and execute test scenarios involving SCADA, protection, automation, and power-system applications.
- Support real-time simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing of utility systems and grid technologies.
- Configure, test, troubleshoot, and validate SCADA communications and interfaces between operational technology systems and field devices.
- Support testing and validation of protection systems, relays, IEDs, automation equipment, and associated communications.
- Analyze system configurations, communications, test results, logs, and technical documentation to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Support system upgrades, migrations, integrations, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Assist with integration between OT and IT systems and related enterprise technology environments.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, test cases, troubleshooting guides, and operational documentation.
- Participate in system testing, validation, commissioning, and implementation activities.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, SCADA/OT teams, infrastructure teams, vendors, system operators, and other technical stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot SCADA, communications, simulation, configuration, and integration issues.
- Support technical reviews of system architectures, integration designs, test plans, configurations, and implementation approaches.
- Communicate technical issues, test results, risks, and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong practical understanding of electrical engineering and electric power-system fundamentals.
- 5+ years of relevant experience supporting SCADA, power systems, protection, automation, utility OT, or related engineering environments.
- Hands-on experience with SCADA communications, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with real-time simulation, HIL, or comparable power-system simulation environments.
- Experience with protection systems, relays, IEDs, automation equipment, or related power-system technologies.
- Experience working in integration, testing, commissioning, laboratory, or engineering environments.
- Understanding of OT and IT systems and the integration between operational and enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting system upgrades, migrations, integrations, or platform modernization.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze system configurations, logs, communications, test results, and technical documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse technical and operational stakeholder groups.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, operations, technology, and vendor teams.
- Experience in electric utility, power generation, transmission, distribution, energy, or grid operations environments is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with RTDS, RSCAD, or other real-time simulation platforms.
- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
- Experience with SCADA communications and utility control systems.
- Experience with protection relays, IEDs, and power-system automation.
- Experience with utility system upgrades, migrations, integrations, or modernization programs.
- Experience with OT/IT integration within electric utility environments.
- Experience with distribution systems, substations, or grid operations.
- Familiarity with SEL or other utility protection and automation equipment.
- Experience with Python or other scripting/automation tools for testing or engineering activities.
