Job Description:
Position Overview
The Sr Performance Test Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring our software applications are fast, stable, and highly scalable. You will design, build, and run automated performance tests (like load, stress, and endurance tests) to simulate real-world user behavior. In this role, you will analyze system metrics to pinpoint exactly where software or hardware is slowing down and collaborate with developers to fix those issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Workload Modeling: Analyze user traffic patterns to create realistic performance test scenarios that mimic actual production behavior.
- Scripting & Execution: Write, maintain, and execute robust performance test scripts for APIs, web apps, and microservices using industry-standard tools.
- Bottleneck Identification: Monitor infrastructure health (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network) and application logs during tests to isolate performance issues.
- CI/CD Integration: Integrate performance tests into automated deployment pipelines to catch speed and scaling issues early.
- Data Management: Create, manage, and maintain realistic test data sets required for large-scale load simulations.
- Results Analysis: Generate clear, detailed performance reports and explain technical findings to both development teams and project managers.
Required Technical Skills
- Testing Tools: 5+ years of hands-on experience with tools like LoadRunner, Apache JMeter, Gatling, or Locust.
- Monitoring & APM: Experience using Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools such as Perfmon, Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, New Relic, or Datadog.
- Coding & Scripting: Strong scripting skills in languages like C, C+, Python, Java, or JavaScript to build custom test scripts.
- Environments: Good understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and container tools like Docker and Kubernetes. Also on-prem environments performance testing as well.
- Databases: Ability to write basic SQL queries to monitor database performance and verify test data.
- Soft Skills & Experience
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience specialized in non-functional testing and software performance engineering.
- Problem Solving: A strong analytical mindset with a passion for troubleshooting complex system slow-downs.
- Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical performance bottlenecks to developers and suggest potential fixes.
